CANE HILL // "TOO FAR GONE" - ALBUM REVIEW
AMERICAN HEAVY ROCKERS 'CANE HILL' RELEASE THEIR SECOND STUDIO ALBUM 'TOO FAR GONE'
CANE HILL - "TOO FAR GONE" - RELEASED FRIDAY 19TH JANUARY 2018
★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8.5/10)
Cane Hill have released their latest album "Too Far Gone" and it is a fantastic offering from the Louisiana based band. Working with Rise Records this is their second full length studio album and its definitely hitting all the right notes. Producing something that the band themselves have termed “swamp grunge”, the first song that is the albums namesake has a darker story behind it. Written while the band were experimenting with LSD it gives a very honest look at that time.
The album takes its audience on a lyrical journey with heavy songs such as "Scumbag" and "Hateful" which have deep and growling vocals that shake you down to your core with the first being one of the best and most scathing antifascist anthems of our time leaving the more reserved of an audience unable to sit still and want to jump into the mosh pit.
Using his impressive vocals to their full extent Elijah Witt provides a whole album of meaningful performances that bring each song alive and show the audience exactly what he is thinking and feeling as he recorded them. He is giving Cane Hill a unique and original sound that has grown up and evolved since their first album "Smile" that was released in 2016. "Too Far Gone" feels like a defining album for Cane Hill, they have redefined who they are, what their sound is and what they want to say.
The final track "The End" is a perfect ending to this brilliant album and sums up the way it has evolved through the 10 tracks almost like a fairy story having its perfect ending. Each track will have you going back to repeat each song to really get into the lyrics. Hopefully this will lead to the perfect fairy tale ending for Cane Hill who deserve to be as huge as their sound.
