★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8.5/10)
DEAD! have announced the release of their debut album, THE GOLDEN AGE OF NOT EVEN TRYING, via Infectious BMG on 26 January 2018. “There’s blood, sweat, arguments, defining moments and some of the best and worst times of our lives in this album. But every band should have that in a debut record.”
THE GOLDEN AGE OF NOT EVEN TRYING was recorded with producer Charlie Russell at Dean Street Studios in Soho, London and is the proud product of four fiercely focused people in their late teens and early 20s. With the announcement, the band have also released a music video for their next single and the title track from the album.
Regarding the video, the band had the following to say: “We all live in The Golden Age of Not Even Trying whether we like it or not. That means many different things to different people and we used that in the creation of the video. Parts of it are of us performing and parts of it are everyday life that we take for granted. We never stop to realise that all the decisions we choose to either take or neglect have an impact on the bigger picture of us as a society.”
With a fire in their belly that has seen them tour, without frills, almost non-stop over the past 18 months, move into a house in London together, release their own music, make and produce their own videos, and design and print their own merchandise, DEAD! are one of the UK’s most exciting new bands.
As I type, the album has hit the UK charts at number 34 which is an amazing achievement. The album is a spectacular debut with 12 tracks of pure pop punk that will speak to many. They provide the audience with ear splitting riffs heavy drums and thought provoking lyrics. Dead! are one of the coolest band gangs around at the moment and The Boys The Boys the first song on the album feels as though they have allowed me to join all be it only for a while. Enough Enough Enough is a great song that gives an insight into the huge changes that were made to move from Isle of White to London to pursue their dream, its a fast catchy song that sticks in your head and makes me think of the lifestyle of a Londoner. Each member has laid out their soul on each track and each performance is raw. They have created their own distinctive sound and brand already. This is the band to be watching in 2018.
