Tom Grennan is back with another smasher of a pop-soul single. His success continues off the back of his other hits including ‘Something In The Water’, ‘Praying’ and break through guitar pop anthem ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’.
On first listen, new single ‘Sober’ is a typical Tom Grennan track; written from the heart with that pop-soul feel. However this track is slightly slower than previous ones and you can instantly feel the emotion of the song. The opening verses are quite stripped back, showing off Grennan’s signature raspy soulful voice. When the chorus kicks in, the listener is transported to another level with the incorporation of brass, strings and keys. This results in a change of feel within the song; a constant build is clearly recognisable. The track incorporates the famous pop anthem singalong - a basic guarantee that it will be a success live with a crowd’s backing. The production on the song is incredible. Though it did take a few listens to fully appreciate the lyrics and meaning of the song, there is no doubt that the vocal melody line is catchy and flows well. Having seen Grennan perform live at festival’s during the summer, there is no doubt that this track will fit perfectly into his already impressive set list.
Having worked with big names such as Chase and Status and Bugzy Malone and having recently appeared in pop princess Charlie XCX’s recent music video for her track ‘Boys’, there is no doubt that Tom Grennan is on his way to the top. His unique voice, rogue-ish yet likeable attitude and talent for songwriting has been shown by the success of his singles and his debut album ‘Lighting Matches’ will definitely be tipped to do well.
