After a while sitting on the sidelines and a shake up of band members, Vukovi are looking to kick off 2019 the right way and with a brand new album on the horizon what better way to do so than play a few live gigs to showcase new material.

Opening up the evening and the only support act was another Scottish band named Crystal

Being the only support of the evening, Scottish four-piece Crystal were given the task of warming up the ever growing crowd. With a couple of technical hitches to begin with they soon found their stride and even though their music wasn’t personally my cup of tea, they put on a strong performance especially in the latter half of their set where they seemed to grow in confidence and capture attention with their set highlight being their single “Heaven”. Having never heard of them before this show, they will definitely have gathered some new fans from this tour and should be ones to watch this year.

Everyone was hyped for the main event of the evening and a Glasgow show for Vukovi is usually a night to remember and tonight was to prove no different. Taking to the stage with a new backdrop and now as just a three-piece they storm into “And He Lost His Mind” from their debut self-titled album which set the tone for the rest of the evening. Treating fans to three brand new songs from their upcoming new album “Aura”, “Violent Minds” and next single due for release in a couple of weeks titled “Claudia”, all three new tracks sounded excellent live and should sound great on track.

Vocalist Janine Shilstone and guitarist Hamish Reilly are an energetic duo with Janine not afraid to get up close and personal with the crowd and toying with people’s smartphones which has become the norm in recent times. The old songs still sound huge though and the packed Attic loved the hits like “Animal” and “Target Practice”, but the set highlight came during slower paced track “Colour Me In” where Janine entered the crowd and the room was lit with mainly phone torches.

After the recent departure of bassist Jason Trotter and drummer Colin Irving, Vukovi tonight chose to have the bass guitar on backing track and what we assume at the moment is a fill in drummer until confirmed otherwise, it’ll be interesting to see what news comes in the coming weeks if they will choose to replace the bassist or not. The bass on track worked for tonight, but I would like to see a new face to add another dynamic to the band again. I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves for the rest of the year and with a tour supporting Set It Off coming up it looks set to be a big one.
