With the venue for the evening being the magnificent Usher Hall in Edinburgh, we were unfortunately unable to catch first support band Issues so the first band of the evening came in the form of main support band Neck Deep all the way from Wales. Having toured relentlessly for the last year or so in support of their latest album “The Peace and The Panic” the band are celebrating the end of this album cycle and have brought along some friends to make the set extra special. Firstly there was Hannah Greenwood, who normally sings in the band Creeper, here to sing backing vocals in harmony with vocalist Ben Barlow. Secondly they had saxophonist Saxl Rose who has previously worked with Neck Deep before on stage for a few songs including the set highlight of the evening “In Bloom” which had the whole venue belting back the lyrics. Also included in the set were some older tracks and also their recently released cover of “Torn”. The band sounded excellent and left the stage with Ben saying they “have an album to write”.

Neck Deep:

The lights fell once more and Matt Donnelly takes to the stage on his own to begin with, before the rest of Don Broco storm the stage for opening song “Come Out To L.A.” Smashing out a huge set full of hits from “Technology” like the title track, “Greatness” and “Pretty” along with a load of old favourites to keep the crowd satisfied. Their set every so often coincided with the appearance of the Cowboy, a returning character in many of their music videos, with his star moment coming when he took to the stage during “Everybody” to do the song’s trademark dance routine. Don Broco’s set was fully fleshed out production wise too which was especially apparent during new single “Half Man Half God”,, but this also didn’t stop them squeezing in an acoustic version of their song “Further” which was also a special moment. Climaxing in a rousing performance of “T-Shirt Song” which had the whole hall spinning various garments around their head, it’s been satisfying watching Don Broco grow in size and maturity with every tour they have done, and this show proves they are due for even bigger stages going forward.
