★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)

Having all members apart from vocalist Nathan James and drummer Phil Beave leave due to person differences the rising British stars inglorious are back with its brand-new line up. The group were predominantly inspired by 70s hard rock legends Lead Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones which is why why they have gained a following so fast. Supporting the five piece were City Of Thieves and Blind River.

First up was Blind River who played an acoustic set which sounded great however their drummer was missing from the set due to other commitments regardless they still put on a cracking show. Their short snappy set was well received by the growing audience who loved them. Even though the group were playing an acoustic set it still contained many of their beloved rock elements with them still including their riffs and raunchy vocals. Their set included many tracks like ‘Going Nowhere’, ‘Can’t Sleep Sober’ and ‘Bonehouse’ from their self-titled album ‘Blind River.’ Overall their set was great, and it was a nice change having an acoustic set at a rock gig.

Next up was City of Thieves which had the full band on stage for a classic rock set! Their set sounded cracking and it’s great to see a band that’s only been established for a short period of time being able to play at one of the best venues in Newcastle to a sizeable crowd. With a clear influence from 70s-80s rock their recently released album was great to hear live. Their set featured tracks like ‘Reality Bites’, ‘Buzzed up City’ and ‘Fuel and Alcohol.’ I have to say that I have repeatedly listened to their album in full since seeing them live as I really enjoyed their set.

With a new line up, I could tell the audience were nervous but excited for Inglorious tonight, their new album ‘Ride to Nowhere’ being released just recently on the 25th of January, it’s a great start to their year with it reaching to 57th in the charts. As the lights dimmed a melodic intro began playing and one by one the group entered the stage. Once on stage the group began with ‘Where Are You Now?’ which reassured the audience that with the split only happening a few months ago they are back sounding exactly the same. Their second song of the evening was ‘Taking the Blame’ which got the audience dancing. Up next was ‘High Flying Gypsy’ off their debut album.

After finishing the previous song, vocalist Nathan James addressed the audience saying ‘it’s great to be back in your great city!’ and they began playing ‘Read All About It.’ Their set was pretty uneventful however the groups setlist featured a plethora of tracks from their discovery. As the night drew to a close the group finished with ‘I Don’t Need Your Loving’ and ‘I Don’t Know You.’ After the group left the stage the cheers from the audience continued and the group returned to play two of their most famous tracks ‘Holy Water’ and ‘Until I Die’ from their first album. Overall their set was enjoyable and this come back from what could have been the end for inglorious came at a perfect time!
