Arriving at the Riverside I was greeted with a packed venue bearing in mind it was only twenty minutes since doors. The atmosphere was terrific as a crowd of mixed ages waited in anticipation for Will and The People and Barnes Courtney to take to the stage.

The music faded, the lights dimmed, one by one Will and The People entered the stage. Front man Will Rendle entered wearing just a pair of boxers, this was one way to make a memorable performance. The stage presence from each member was stunning to see, there was no messing about. They certainly know how to put on a show. I have never seen a support band this phenomenal.

In true Hollywood style Barnes and his band took to the stage later than expected, with a screaming crowd in front of them. Wearing a bright red leather jacket Barnes entered jumping all over as Fun Never Ends began playing from his recently released album 404, throughout the track he was constantly jumping and throwing the microphone around the stage. Track two was the incredible catchy and fast paced London Girls, between the crowd shaking the floor and Barns shaking the speakers.

Up next was Hands from The Attractions of Youth which was slightly slower which allowed for everyone to have a slight breather as Barnes glistened with sweat, towards the end of the track saw a harmonic solo before it was thrown to the back of the stage. He then addressed the audience “how are you Newcastle?” which had the audience screaming before commencing with the uniquely named Hobo Rocktet. Never Let you down was next which saw the audience belting out the lyrics back to Barns and his band. Tracks Little Boy and Champion went down a storm, then suddenly the guitar intro for his most well-known track Glitter & Gold which went viral due to it becoming the theme Netflix’s Safe – this track caused the crowd to go crazy.

With the night slowing coming to an end the first three tracks off 404: Hollow, You & I and 99’. The crowd didn’t seem to be as familiar with these this is perhaps due to them recent release of them. Now at the end of the night there was three tracks left: Golden Dandelions, Kicks and Fire. All fan favourites from his first album.

Overall the night was terrific I was blown away by both bands and really enjoyed the evening. There’s a few days left of his tour and I’d highly recommend you get a ticket!
