Singer-songwriter Jake Bugg surprised long term fans with his new direction in music for the 2017 album ‘Hearts that Strain’, showing more a country/folky vibe in his new material while still keeping some familiarity with his older discography. This solo acoustic tour in support of 'Hearts That Strain' has been going on since October 2017, with Bugg touring Europe and the US before heading up north for his Glasgow headline shows which have been long-awaited by fans.

The doors opened at 7PM as the sold out club got flooded with fans trying to get in all at once. Soon around 8pm the house lights dimmed and the crowd were introduced to support act Georgie; a folk singer/songwriter also from Nottingham. Georgie got the crowd all warmed up for Jake's intimate set.

Around 9PM the house lights dimmed again as the crowd of roaring fans cheered for Bugg as he walked on stage with his signature acoustic guitar. Starting off with main single 'How Soon the Dawn' off ‘Hearts that Strain', Bugg's set consisted of songs from past LPs and fan favourites such as ‘Broken’, ‘Seen It All’, ‘There’s a Beast And We All Feed it’. ‘Lightning Bolt’ was a particular highlight: Jake's hit that propelled to the fame he enjoys to this day.

This set this time felt more intimate and more closer to the fans Jake was talking more as before the last time I seen him he was a bit shy towards the crowd. This tour's set was much more relaxed and barely introduced any electric elements, unlike the last time he played Glasgow in 2016. Overall Jake put on a great show for the eager crowd, and has still matured with his personality and performance.
