The teen filled crowd started to filter into the intimate venue and spirits were high as the first support act, The Party Slogan, took to the stage. The Edinburgh based, five piece looked at home on the stage, comfortably playing through a lively set as The Mash House started heating up. I think The Mash House is a great venue to experience smaller, emerging bands like this as its close proximity really brings the crowd together and creates an electric atmosphere which a lot of larger venues fail to do. With some cracking songs such as Addiction, A Week In The Sun and Good Thing Going On, I doubt it will be very long before we see this young band hitting the bigger stages.

Next up were the East London band Bad Nerves. The alternative punk band had some serious stage presence along with some fantastic clobber. There was no mistaking that the band had taken to stage, kicking off with a fast-paced set including songs such as “Cant Be Mine” shortly followed by their 2017 single “Radio Punk” which definitely got the crowd dancing with their front man standing on the front barriers, complaining that they shouldn’t be there. It felt as if he would be in the crowd moshing if he could be which was made evident shortly after as he climbed over the barrier and did exactly that. This is what small venues like this are all about, and it was great to see the crowd thoroughly enjoying themselves, whilst in a sweaty, moment of madness.

I think the break between acts was welcomed by the crowd as it gave them time to catch their breath and cool down from the hyper active set of Bad Nerves. Now the crowd were suitably hyped for the act they were all there to see, High Tyde were welcomed onto stage by a barrage of screams and whistles.

The Brighton band started with a lively new song called “In Your Head” from their 2018 mix tape “8978-202545”. It was a great was to start the first show of their tour with many dates already sold out. With the speakers shaking, front man, Cody says “Lets get you sweaty as fuck” and then all hell broke loose with the whole crowd moshing to the high tempo set.

They played through predominantly songs from 8978-202545 however they had a small technical difficulty with the bass half way through the set which led to a small break in between songs. Spirits were still high and the atmosphere was not affected and they swiftly came back with “The Trip” which got the ground shaking once again.

After a mixture of new and “old school” throwbacks such as their 2015 single “Do What You Want”, High Tyde brought their energetic show to a close with “Dark Love”. I think this show was a real crowd pleaser and one to be remembered. A great way to start their 10 show headline tour.
