THE SNUTS // THE CAVES, EDINBURGH

The eccentric interior of The Caves in Edinburgh created a perfect setting for a potentially exquisite night of music coming from non-other than Ayakara, Mark Sharp and the headliners ‘The Snuts’.

THE SNUTS PERFORMING AT EDINBURGH'S CAVES - 15.02.2018

Ayakara opened the night with their self-described 'adrenaline groove', straight out of Leith. With the venue filling up they caught the eye of the crowd and were well received. They seem to have so much energy on stage that regardless of the audience they are playing to, they always seem to capture the crowd with their funky tunes.

Mark Sharp and the Bicycle Thieves then came on as main support. With Mark Sharp on stage playing a solo song before being joined by The Bicycle Thieves, they were a technically great band that performed precisely on the night. With a catchy sound it was unfortunate that their songs were repetitive and slightly un-entertaining. With the band looking a bit bored at points it then translated to the audience and the crowd began to lose interest. A talented band with promise that lacked some much-needed interaction with the crowd.

With a 20-minute interval The Snuts were due onstage and the crowd couldn’t wait. With chants urging them to begin their act you could feel the anticipation for the set to follow. As they entered the stage the reception was overwhelmingly positive. Proudly grasping two bottles of Buckfast they gave the crowd something to shout about before they even played. Kicking off the set with their first EP release ‘The Matador’ the fans of the band immediately started jumping to the beat. Following that with their second song on the EP ‘What’s Going On?’ it was already a convincing example of a band going somewhere.

The frontman Jack Cochrane then acknowledged the audience by thanking them for coming to see the show, he then went on to say “I love playing this side of the country” before continuing on with “This ones called Glasgow…”. Approaching 400,000 listens on Spotify it is being played all over the place. They went on to play tracks including ‘Summertime’ from their EP and ‘Sing for Your Supper’, their third released demo. To end it in fashion they played ‘Proper’, a personal favourite of mine which was a fitting end to an incredible presentation of where the music scene is going.

The Snuts will be making a appearance at this year's TRNSMT festival at Glasgow Green in Glasgow on Saturday 30th June. Performing on King Tut's Stage powered by Ultita. The Snuts will also be opening up for headliner Liam Gallagher who's closing the show on Main-Stage.
