The Sherlocks exemplify an indie/rock culture from the North that shows no sign of slowing down. The 4-piece take to the Edinburgh stage acknowledging the Scottish crowd, who were the first set of fans to sell out their Live For The Moment tour.

They open with favourites from the best selling debut album of 2017, 'Last Night' and 'Escapade'. The crowd immediately react, screaming the relatable lyrics about dodgy nights out and spending all your money back to the band.

They play through a seamless set with anthem-like 'Blue', that was released in early August to pre-empt the album, being next on the set-list. This track keeps to the theme of the album, the idea of being young and skint but not caring, not dissimilar from the early Arctic Monkeys and Oasis records. A comparison I’m sure the band will welcome, and with their loyal following that has been steadily growing over the years it is hard to deny them this status.

Frontman Kiaran Cook only stops in the set to say hello and make sure everyone is okay before rifling straight into the next track. It is quite unusual for such a new band to have a crowd sing every single one their lyrics, but The Sherlocks have had this dedicated fan-base ever since I first saw them several years ago. The crowd make no error as they sing every lyric of 'Was It Really Worth It' and 'Will You Be There', their noise filling the busy Liquid Rooms.

The diversity of the young 4-piece is displayed next as they play the slower numbers 'Candlelight' and 'Turn The Clock', for which Kiaran swaps his iconic Fender for an acoustic guitar.  'Turn The Clock' comes to a close and Kiaran shouts down the mic ‘Get me a rum’ - much to the crowd’s joy - before the band jump straight into the folky and penultimate song on the album, 'Motions'.

The riff on 'Nobody Knows' is particularly noticeable as the crowd can be heard screaming ‘It’s All About You’ over the bold guitar. Kiaran takes to the mic again and thanks the Edinburgh crowd for selling out the venue and informs them that they will be back.

The Liquid Room floor turns into a frenzy as the title track of the album 'Live For The Moment' begins to play with it’s now iconic riff. Fans bounce around to the music. The band stop playing as the crowd repeatedly scream ‘please don’t try and run before you can walk and don’t jump the gun’.

The Sheffield 4-piece close with 'Chasing Shadows' to the Scottish crowd’s delight. I have seen these up and comers several times now but still count myself lucky every time, as it so supremely obvious how gigantic they will become over the coming years.
