Jet front-man 'Nic Cester' releases his long-awaited debut solo album "Sugar Rush"

Jet frontman Nic Cester returns to the music scene with his debut solo record Sugar Rush, and a musical approach far removed from the heavier guitars of his previous band.
The 12 tracks begin with the title Sugar Rush, a very bluesy number littered with shades of Zeppelin. The psychedelia vibe comes to the fore in Psichebello, and carries on thru much of the record, a style which suits the power and soul of Cester’s gravelly voice, in ‘God Knows’ in particular.
Influences of other artists are apparent, at times you feel as if you could be listening to The Charlatans one minute, or latterly Oasis the next, other songs could come from the Led Zep catalogue or more recently California’s Rival Sons, whose style of bluesy rock music combined with powerful vocals is very similar to Cester’s sound.
There are some great highlights on the record, and other tracks which seem kinda samey, offering nothing new and leaving you with the feeling you’ve just heard this 5 minutes ago, which lets the album down slightly. However the mish mash of hard rock and psychedelic works well and makes for an overall enjoyable listen.
This is a more than decent debut by Nic Cester.
