KYLE FALCONER // "NO THANK YOU" - ALBUM REVIEW
THE VIEW FRONTMAN 'KYLE FALCONER' WILL RELEASE HIS DEBUT ALBUM 'NO THANK YOU' NEXT WEEK
KYLE FALCONER - "NO THANK YOU" - RELEASED FRIDAY 27TH JULY 2018
★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8.5/10)
No Thank You is the debut solo album from The View frontman Kyle Falconer. The once wild man of pop is a calmer man these days, mainly due to fatherhood and being settled with family life, and this reflects in the music. Gone are the 100mph vodka fuelled days of Comin’ Down, Superstar Tradesman etc. focusing more these days on carefully arranged melodies and meaningful lyrics. No lack of passion in the music, mind you.
It’s easy to see the influences Falconer has drawn on for writing the album, his recent tumultuous life, from the lows of being in rehab and feeling sorry for himself ‘Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink…’ to the inspiration and promise of Family Tree ‘cos I’m working on me and the family, I’m growing up you see….’
Falconer’s first outing on his own into the big bad world of pop music is a fine collection of mainstream pop tunes, which will no doubt end up capturing the attention of a much bigger audience with his current approach to his music and lifestyle changes too. Growing up indeed.
There are hints of The Kinks, snippets of Arctic Monkeys, Beatles guitar riffs and bedtime dreams of Stevie Nicks, which when combined with the obvious talents of the man makes for a very impressive debut solo album, the singalong Family Tree for me being the standout track.
This is an album of songs The View could never have made, says Falconer. Stick with the Vimto then Kyle, and keep them coming.
