CHVRCHES // 'MIRACLE' - SINGLE REVIEW

CHVRCHES PREMIERE FOURTH SINGLE FROM UPCOMING ALBUM - 'MIRACLE'

CHVRCHES has been spoiling us all lately. After very recently premiering the abrasive and hard-hitting 'Never Say Die' and appearing in the BBC Live Lounge to perform 'Get Out' - lead single from the upcoming album Love is Dead - and a cover of The 1975's 'Somebody Else', the band have unveiled another track from the album: the Steve Mac-produced 'Miracle'.

'Miracle' sees CHVRCHES steer even further into the polished electronic pop direction: the nostaglic synth tones are still there of course, but almost all of the elements around them have a different, more polished sheen to them. Lauren Mayberry's vocals once again take centre stage: commanding 'If you feel it can you let me know?' before the ludicrously catchy Imagine Dragons-esque chorus drops, complete with vocal chants and booming half-time drums. The wistful pre-chorus has a summery, EDM-vibe to it to contrast, almost as if it was written with a Tiestö remix in mind. All this combined just has epic pop banger written all over it, and this is no bad thing at ll: 'Miracle' is probably one of CHVRCHES' catchiest songs to date, and no doubt will be a treat to hear live.

'Miracle' is another departure from the sound of their first two records in both a compositional and sonic context, which some fans will embrace and others will loathe. I personally am enjoying this more 'live' version of CHVRCHES that the band are trying to present: they are not restraining themselves from writing the all-out radio friendly hooks, while embracing the more abrasive influences to their sound for Love is Dead. If the quality of the tracks aired so far continues into the deeper cuts on the album, we are all in for a treat.
