GEORGE EZRA - "STAYING AT TAMARA'S" - ALBUM REVIEW
GEORGE EZRA RETURNS WITH HIS LONG-AWAITED SOPHOMORE ALBUM "STAYING AT TAMARA'S"
GEORGE EZRA - "STAYING AT TAMARA'S" - RELEASED FRIDAY 23RD MARCH 2018
★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)
George Ezra has released his new album "Staying at Tamara's" and it is the ultimate summer barbeque soundtrack. It is full of happy vibes and relaxed tunes that could put anybody in the mood for some sunshine. After his debut album "Wanted on Voyage" in 2014 it was a tough act to follow, but Ezra has pulled through and everyone is talking about it.
The opener on the album Happy Smiling People has some dark lyrics such as "what a terrible time to be alive if you're prone to overthinking", which is then followed by an upbeat message of "Hey pretty smiling people, we're alright together". This summarises what the album has in store - mix of upbeat and slowed down tunes. One of my personal favourites on the album is the 4th track, Shotgun. Shotgun is an early standout and has ultimate happy summer vibes. This song focuses on all the good things in life and is treacherously catchy.
As the album progresses, the choruses get bigger – reaching their peak half way through the album with tune "Paradise". Ezra explained how the cheery and upbeat track was influenced by his girlfriend and his emotions during the early stages of their relationship. Something that stuck out about the album was its disarming likeability. Ezra's deep soothing tones and as artless as his lyrics are, his hooks stick in the mind. These songs are bound to become the soundtrack of shops and tv adverts and will be stuck in your head for days. This is a fantastic album and there's something on it for everybody.
