Patience is key in the case of Revelry. The three piece - consisting of vocalist Olivia Rivers, bassist Aaron Jacques and drummer Sion Dungey - have spent the past three years since forming honing their live performances around the local scene in Surrey (all three members are alumni of the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford), and writing catchy-as-fuck rock tunes with an attitude. They have by no means rushed to get their music out there, instead spending the additional time making their sound as tight and cohesive as it can be. This extra effort and patience shows through in the quality of their debut release: 'Take Me Down'.
The track is an assault on the auditory senses, albeit not quite from the outset: the rather gentle intro allows the listener a brief moment of respite before the band cascades a thunderous wall of sound into their face. The heavily processed bass tones and thunderous drumming inevitably channel Royal Blood, however Olivia Rivers' vocal performance adds a bit of Joan Jett-style swagger to give the track its own unique aggressiveness. Add an extremely memorable chorus to the mix and you have a recipe that can dispel the more obvious comparisons.
