★★★★☆ (4.5/5)

American International duo ‘ TWENTY ONE PILOTS ‘and American international rapper ‘ POST MALONE ‘ topped off an unforgettable weekend at ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL 2019 ‘. Other outstanding performances across the day included the likes of… BLOSSOMS, Stefflon Don, Of Mice & Men, PEACE, Anderson… Paak & The Free Nationals, BILLIE EILISH, PVRIS, Paris, Sports Team, AJ. Tracey, The Hunna, Slowthai, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Sophie & The Gaints, Special Guest… MABEL and many more who rocked and jammed the final day of ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL 2019 ‘.

The final day kicked off with London’s punk-rockers ‘ Counterfeit ‘ on the Main Stage, Amsterdam’s ‘ Pip Blom ‘ over on the BBC Radio 1 Stage, ‘ High Power ‘ who filled in for ‘ Queen Zee ‘ who pulled out due to travel reasons on THE PIT STAGE, up-comers ‘ Sons Of Raphael ‘ opened up for the FESTIVAL REPUBLIC Stage, and ‘ FUDGE. ‘ opened up the final day of ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL 2019 ‘ on the BBC Introducing Stage.

As the final day of ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL 2019 ‘ kicks off over on the Main Stage seen London’s punk-rockers ‘ Counterfeit ‘ take to the stage on a slot which is never easy to do. ‘ Counterfeit ‘ formed in London during 2015, the five-piece consists of ‘ Jamie Campbell Bower ‘ on lead vocals and guitar, ‘ Tristan Marmont ‘ on guitar and backing vocals, ‘ Roland Johnson ‘ on bass and backing vocals, and ‘ Jimmy Craig ‘ on drums and percussion. The band have released three EP’s since forming during 2015, titled ‘ Come Get Some ‘ during 2015, ‘ Enough ‘, and ‘ Addiction ‘ during 2016, and also their debut studio album ‘ Together We Are Stronger ‘ during 2017. Their also known for their singles ‘ Enough ‘, ‘ You Can’t Rely ‘, ‘ Letters to the Lost ‘, and most recently released track ‘ It Gets Better ‘.

The crowd slowly arrives in their hungover states from the camp sites to check out the London punk-rockers, but as predicted it’s never easy to open up a Stage on a Sunday. Front-man ‘ Jamie Campbell Bower ‘ gives it everything to try wake up the crowd but it’s never a easy challenge. None the less they put on a great rock set and shout outs to ‘ TRUMP ‘ and ‘ BORIS ‘ which needs little encouragement which sees the crowd throwing their middle fingers up in the air!

Despite it being a hard time to perform ‘ Counterfeit ‘ seem to perform a great set and crowd there by end of their set were already in a great atmosphere for the rest of the day.

The line-up across the final day was another mixed genre and seen performances from some of the best bands and artists around the world right now. The Main-Stage seen performances from… ALMA, Against The Current, The Hunna, AJ. Tracey, BILLIE EILISH, and Anderson… Paak & The Free Nationals. Over on the BBC RADIO 1 Stage seen performances… Dinosaur Pile-Up, Blood Youth, Paris, and Poppy. The FESTIVAL REPUBLIC Stage seen upcoming talent from… Oddity Road, Belako, Sophie and The Giants, PINK SWEAT$, The Japanese House, Bleached, Two Feet, and Sports Team. Brand New Discovered talent seen performances from… SCUM, Somebody’s Child, Ishani, Charlotte, Alfie Templeman, FEET, and Le Boom on the BBC Introducing Stage.

Continuing on the Main-Stage seen American rock-pop band ‘ Against The Current ‘ take to the stage. The three-piece formed in 2011 originally as a five-piece in New York, USA. The band now consists of ‘ Christina “Chrissy” Constanza ‘ on lead vocals, ‘ Daniel Glow ‘ on lead guitar, and backing vocals, and ‘ William Ferri ‘ on drums and backing vocals. The band also has two touring members ‘ Roo Buxton ‘ on rhythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, and ‘ Jordan Eckes ‘ on bass guitar.

The band are signed to Fueled by Ramen records, Since 2011 they’ve released four EP’s titled ‘ Infinity ‘ and ‘ Infinity ( The Acoustic Sessions ) during 2014, ‘ Gravity ‘ and ‘ Gravity ( The Acoustic Sessions, Vol II ) ‘ during 2015. The three-piece have also released two studio albums since 2016, their debut studio album ‘ In Our Bones ‘ during 2016 and their sophomore most recently released album ‘ Past Lives ‘ during last year. Their known for their tracks ‘ Legends Never Die ‘, ‘ Voices ‘, ‘ Strangers Again ‘, ‘ Dreaming Alone ‘, ‘ Paralyzed ‘, ‘ Wasteland ‘ and ‘ Gravity ‘.

Against The Current ‘ had a lot easier set as the Yorkshire crowd had grown sufficiently, but their set was not much livelier themselves, as their numbers were making it a workout for the front-woman ‘ Christina Costanzo ‘, who’s energy eventually wakens up the crowd. The band play a great set although something felt different with them, maybe it was the day and time of day they were playing. Overall was a good set as always.

Next up seen Hertfordshire rockers ‘ The Hunna ‘ take to the stage. The four-piece formed during 2015, they’re signed to Warner Brother Records. The band consists of ‘ Ryan (Tino) Potter ‘ on lead vocals, and guitar, ‘ Daniel (Dan, BD) Dorney ‘ on lead guitar, ‘ Cuneyt (Junate) Angin ‘ on bass and ‘ Jack (IK) Metcalfe ‘ on drums.

The band have since 2016 released two studio albums, their debut studio album ‘ 100 ‘ was released during 2016, their sophomore and most recently released album ‘ Dare ‘ was released last year. The band are known for their tracks such as ‘ She’s Causal ‘, ‘ Bonfire ‘, ‘ Babe, Can I Call? ‘, ‘ Never Enough ‘, ‘ Piece By Piece ‘, ‘ Give Yourself A Try ‘, ‘ Dare ‘, ‘ NY To LA ‘, and ‘ Flickin’ Your Hair ‘.

By the time ‘ The Hunna ‘ appeared on stage, the Main-Stage seemed to got a lot larger, a larger crowd than expected. As the band took to their stride on stage, they performed hit after hit which sees the Yorkshire crowd in a frenzy. Front-man ‘ Ryan Potter ‘ speaks about how their label tried to “ fuck them & their fans over “, and that they now can finally release new music and a brand new album. The band teased their album by playing their new track ‘ IGHTF ‘. As expected during hits like ‘ She’s Causal ‘ sees the atmosphere of the crowd go nuts! The crowd turned into a massive colour smoke scene from flares with members of the crowd were setting off.

Overall their set was fantastic and was welcomed by the Yorkshire crowd.

Now over to the FESTIVAL REPUBLIC Stage seen English indie-pop act ‘ The Japanese House ‘ take to the stage. The twenty-four year old ‘ Amber Bain ‘ from Buckingham-shire. Since 2015, she has released six EP’s titled ‘ Pools to Bathe In ‘, ‘ Clean ‘ during 2015, ‘ Swim Against the Tide ‘ during 2016, ‘ Saw You In a Dream ‘, ‘ The Spotify Sessions ‘ during 2017, and ; The LA Sessions ‘ during 2019. She has also released her debut studio album ‘ Good at Falling ‘ during earlier this year. The twenty-four year old is known for her tracks ‘ Saw You In a Dream ‘, ‘ You Seemed so Happy ‘, ‘ Maybe You’re the Reasons ‘, ‘ Lilo ‘, ‘ Cool Blue ‘, ‘ Still ‘, ‘ Face Like Thunder ‘, and ‘ Landslide ‘.

The Japanese House’s ‘ performance on stage which seen her wearing a indie out-fit which is exactly what is needed to calm everyone for a little while. Her performance was welcomed by the Yorkshire crowd in the tent. Her overall performance was great and shows why she was supporting the likes of ‘ THE 1975 ‘ on tour. We hope one day she might even be headlining one of the stages at Reading and Leeds festivals in the future. Her vocals, image and performance a great and on top point.

Next up and back over to the Main-Stage for the biggest and most anticipated performance of the whole weekend, seen ‘ BILLIE EILISH ‘ take to the stage. The seventeen year old from Los Angeles, USA has made massive success for herself over the past year. Playing sold-out shows across the world, supporting the likes of ‘ Florence + The Machine ‘ on tour, and getting praise from the likes of ‘ Dave Grohl ‘ the king of rock from ‘ Foo Fighters ‘ is definitely going in the right way.

Since 2017, ‘ Billie Eilish ‘ has released two EP’s titled ‘ Don’t Smile at Me ‘, and ‘ Up Next Session : Billie Eilish ‘ during 2017. Earlier this year, she has also released her successful debut studio album ‘ Where We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? ‘. She is known for her tracks ‘ bad guy ‘, ‘ When The Party’s Over ‘, ‘ Lovely (with Khalid) ‘, ‘ Bury a Friend ‘, ‘ I Love You ‘, ‘ Wish you were Gay ‘, ‘ You Should See Me in a Crown ‘, ‘ Idontwannabeyouanymore ‘, and ‘ Ocean Eyes ‘.

As ‘ Billie Eilish ‘ appears on the stage, practically every camper and day ticket holders was at the main stage to see her perform on the stage. It was definitely the biggest ever crowd I’ve seen at ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL ‘ before. Her set kicked off with her massive hit ‘ bad guy ‘ which seen the crowd go wild, from jumping, moshing and singing along and also smoke flares going off in the crowd. The seventeen year old was definitely well off on the front foot with the Yorkshire crowd. She continued to perform belter after belter throughout her ten-song set. Including tracks like ‘ My Strange Addiction ‘, ‘ Idontwannabeyouanymore ‘, ‘ All the Good Girls go to Hell ‘, ‘ Bellyache ‘ and finished her epic set with ‘ Bury a Friend ‘.

It would seem today’s crowd of ‘ Twenty One Pilots ‘ and ‘ Post Malone ‘ fans are the prefect fit for her music. Her bold set was welcomed by the Yorkshire crowd for sure. She is continuing set to continue to turn heads across the world and she definitely on course for a great future ahead. We predict she may even headline next year’s or future years Reading and Leeds festivals like how ‘ Post Malone ‘ is doing from his epic daytime set last year to headlining this years festivals.

Before the headliners took to the stage seen the sub-headliners take to the stage, ‘ BLOSSOMS ‘ were playing on the Main-Stage before ‘ Twenty One Pilots ‘ and ‘ Post Malone ‘ both headlined and closed the final day of ‘ LEEDS FESTIVAL 2019 ‘, over on the BBC Radio 1 Stage seen Special Guest… ‘ Mabel ‘ take to the stage, ‘ Of Mice & Men ‘ took to THE PIT STAGE , upcoming talent from ‘ Hoodie Allen ‘ over on the FESTIVAL REPUBLIC Stage and ‘ Larkins ‘ took to the BBC Introducing Stage.

Taking to the main stage were Stockport’s ‘ BLOSSOMS ‘ who definitely a worthy festival band. ‘ BLOSSOMS ‘ have a huge set of tracks worthy of a festival main stage performance so it’s no surprise to see them up there this late in the day. The Stockport lads are pretty to the point in the sense that they sound great live and everyone loves it, but it does seem as though there is little character to their set, as they do little to get the crowd going aside the main tracks of the setlist.

We move over to the BBCR1 stage to catch ‘ PVRIS ‘ who have recently resurfaced with some brand-new music in the form of ‘Death of Me’ and ‘Hallucinations’ which both feature in the set and sound incredible live. The rest of the set is filled with PVRIS favourites like ‘St. Patrick’, ‘You and I’ and ‘Smoke’ before Lynn Gunn has the BBCR1 tent bouncing for the brilliant ‘My House’ to close of another solid set from PVRIS. You wouldn’t have thought they had been away at all.

The weekend is coming to an end and as the sun sets for the golden hour, ‘ Twenty One Pilots ‘ have brought their set of Alternative hip hop and live circus to the Main stage as a split headliner with Post Malone. Straight out to ‘Jumpsuit’ the duo hit the stage as a car bursts into flames behind them creating a rather cool looking stage set. Their show is and always is full of entertainment weather it being frontman Tyler Joseph climbing platforms, Drummer Josh Dun on a drum platform held up by the crowd, or burst of pyro confetti and explosions to keep the crowd on their toes. A surprise addition of a cover of Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ had the entire festival singing along as Post Malone joined the stage guitar in hand to help them along. The entire set seems to disappear in seconds because were having so much fun, even the security were joining in on stage for some rehearsed dancing which had us all laughing along. The only downside to the set was that there was just not enough time to include some of their best tracks in the setlist which should have made it to the cut such as ‘Heavy Dirty Soul’ which always sounds fantastic live. Still, It’s an incredible set and the perfect way to begin closing off the weekend!

On the other side of things, ‘ Post Malone ‘ himself has pretty much helped sell out Sunday tickets as there is some incredible hype around him over the past year. Last year when he played on the mainstage mid-day he pulled in a larger crowd than some of the headline acts, and that in itself was enough to have the festival organisers make sure he was back headlining this year. An eighteen-song set is just right for the rapper to close out the night. Taking the stage to ‘Wow’ Post Malone rapidly fires from one hit to the next. Large portions of his set was covered in pyro and fireworks making sure he could keep up with Twenty one Pilots antics before him. With such a bold setlist featuring ‘Psycho’, ‘Sunflower’, ‘White Vision’ and ‘I Fall Apart’, the fans were left more than happy from the rapper. The fact he thanked the crowd after pretty much every song only proved how humbled and grateful he is to his fanbase for the incredible ride he’s had over the past few years. What a way to close out Leeds Festival 2019!
