As part of a stellar ten day event in London’s Victoria Park, headlining Saturday as the festival drew near to its close on its second weekend, were Mumford and Sons.

Marcus Mumford proclaimed ‘it’s good to be home’ as they were welcomed by a packed out crowd of 40,000. Fans screaming and up on each others shoulders for the best view. Smartphones high, as the sun went down on Victoria Park. This is Mumford’s only festival performance this year for lucky spectators.
As part of their ‘Gentlemen of The Road’ show, they hand picked the artists themselves that paved the lineup before Mumford took to the stage, which consisted of, an Australian derived Gretta Ray, Belgium born Tamino, Brit School prodigy Jade Bird, indie favourites The Vaccines, and a banger of a warm up set from Dizzee Rascal to really get the crowd pumped.
Mumford worked their way through their biggest pleasers, with a hazy ‘Little Lion Man’ at the bottom of their catwalk as the sky changed colour above them. Fans jumped and stomped in delight along with the track.
They covered hits from their latest offering ‘Delta’, which included a beautiful quiet moment in the night for ‘Woman’, their latest single from the album.
From the get go, the band walked around the stage in awe and appreciation, as they clapped the crowd for their participation and put their hands on their hearts thanking the crowd as they leaned out over them with their instruments held high above their heads in gratitude.
Mid set during ‘Ditmas’ Marcus steps down from the stage much to the delight of the screaming people below, and with help from his security climbs into the crowd. The camera man somehow manages to stick with him as onlookers that weren’t in the immediate vicinity could watch on the big screens as Marcus made his way through and shouted for the fans to start jumping with him to the track. ‘Come on then!’
The thing about a Mumford show, is that you can feel every ounce of passion in these 4 guys from the second they step out onto the stage. And it courses through your body like an uncontrollable energy, where you just can’t help yourself but sing and shout and stomp along to the banjo, the guitars, the double bass, the drums and the atmosphere that these men pour out for 2 hours.
Mumford and Sons closed the night with a very appropriate rendition of The Beatles classic ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. To which, they literally invited a little help from their friends, as they were joined on stage by The Staves, Jack Garrett, Dermot Kennedy and Jade Bird. And what a beautiful way to end the night...
