THE DANGEROUS SUMMER // CATHOUSE, GLASGOW
the dangerous summer live at glasgow’s cathouse
★★★★☆ (4/5)
Kicking off the evening was Scottish upstarts Happydaze who have been gradually building up a solid catalogue of songs through some EP and single releases over the last few years. They delivered a solid set with singles like “Cool Blue” and the huge “Go Wrong” getting the crowd singing along with them. Ending on their most recent single “Way Out” was a nice closure with the band enjoying every moment of their hometown show of the tour.
Next up we had Broadside who are the first of our two stateside bands to take the stage. Being a fan of the band for a long time I was excited to see what they had in store and they delivered a great set giving us a big taste of latest album “Hotel Bleu” and dipping into the back catalogue as well. Their single “Cruel” a particular highlight getting the crowd dancing and also ending on the massive chorus of “Foolish Believer”. Their set was interrupted a couple of times with some technical difficulties, but this didn’t dampen their spirit and soldiered on with front man Ollie Baxxter giving some light hearted jokes about the interruptions.
Finally we had The Dangerous Summer take the stage and not knowing too much about the band I was looking forward to seeing what was in store. What took place was a set full of big choruses and singalongs with the audience members who were familiar with the songs lapping up what was a fantastic set. Giving us a healthy dose of latest album “Gravity” and also dipping into the very strong back catalogue they definitely left their mark on me making me want to listen to their music in future. Frontman AJ Perdomo was energetic even though also slinging his bass guitar, but also handed this over to Patrick from Broadside during main set closer “The Permanent Rain” so he could clamber over the barrier and join the crowd to sing with them. An overall fantastic set also sported a cameo from Happydaze members to deliver them some Buckfast to try for the first time, which they shared together.
