GREEN DAY // BELLAHOUSTON PARK, GLASGOW
Green Day delivered a throwback punk rock anthems celebration with their anniversary tour of their iconic releases Dookie and American Idiot.
★★★★☆ (4/5)
Green Day is a band that became a superpower of their time. Their songs captured a swirl of internal conflict in a world that is filled with spikes and traps. They have a power to twist experiences, from the mundane to the monumental, into a punchy song that retains the emotion of the moment. With political and cultural themes, Green Day’s music is known for a style of internal fire starting.
With a near 40 song set list, this tour is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the album Dookie and the 20th of the album American Idiot. The two albums were ascending stepping stones into success and these works cemented them into punk rock history so it is no surprise of the popularity of the tour.
Glasgow’s south side host for the rockers was Bellahouston Park. Unfortunately, parking for this venue is notoriously a nightmare and the local streets suffer from the poor logistics of the event. This caused some strong frustration from attendees and residents before and after the show caught up in the strange road closures and useless arrangement.
Once you had made in to the lovely green space and begun to walk over to the stage setup, the rarity of it being such a grand day in Scotland hit and suddenly all was fine. Punks filled the space to far and wide and the range of age is diverse telling of the scale of the band’s appeal.
‘Returning to your old punk rock days isn’t so bad, right?’
