BUSTED // OVO HYDRO, GLASGOW
Cold Wednesday night in the heart of Glasgow at the iconic OVO Hydro and Busted are doing a nostalgic takeover for night 1 of 2 celebrating their 20th anniversary.
The Tyne took to the stage first to warm up the crowd starting off strong with a cover of “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance. Their stage presence was full of energy and enthusiasm, even giving away a free T-shirt!
Next up it was the brilliant Hanson, by this point the floor is filled front to back with excited gig goers. They played songs from their older albums adding to the nostalgic feel of the night and showing off their incredible vocals.
The crowd were now waiting in anticipation for Busted to take to the stage as they rapped along to Eminem and sang a bit of AC/DC before the music stopped, the lights went dark, and an intro video began to play of Doc Brown from back to the future announcing he was in the year 2023 and introducing Busted to the stage. As the trios’ outlines appeared they were met with the roaring cheers of appreciation from the crowd.
No time was wasted as they done a quick introduction before diving right into their first hit of the night, starting off strong with “Air Hostess” that was swiftly followed by “Meet You There” and “Loser Kid”.
A few songs in James announced Hanson would be coming to the stage to perform “MMM Bop” with the trio which was indeed an absolute BOP! Their vocals all merged creating an incredible collaboration of harmonies. It was only right that they went on to perform a Busted song together which happened to be “Sleeping with The Light On” that got the whole hydro lit up by the crowd’s phone torches.
Their set continued with their newest song “Good One” which was the perfect opportunity for them to plug their newest album which is in the running for the number one slot with Charlie announcing that if they get a number one Glasgow would be responsible.
They ended their set with more nostalgic hits including “What I go to School for”, “Thunderbirds are Go” and “Crashed The Wedding” which Charlie comically dedicated to the couple who had a sign announcing they were getting married in 10 days, before they left stage leaving the crowd buzzing as they waited on the encore.
The Encore started with an intro from an old clip of the trio winning a Brit award in 2004 and they appeared back on stage to sing a cover of “Teenage Kicks” and ending with none other than “Year 3000” which was introduced by Doc Brown again, announcing the boys had made it to the year 3000.
We may be in the year 2023 but the Busted boys managed to transport us back to the early 00’s when a lot of us were teenagers and gave us a night of complete nostalgia filled with so much energy and atmosphere that included multiple smoke canons and fire throughout. Busted have grown as a band and even though they’ve been around for the last 20 years their vocals have only gotten bigger and better. I think I speak for everyone who has been in attendance to any of the recent Busted shows, it’s not a show that you want to miss!
