Murdo Mitchell, a 22-year-old Glaswegian got the crowd going with a feet-stomping set consisting of many of his own songs, and a cover of Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand, backed by his sizable and impressive band. The exciting young artist initially burst onto the scene through his debut EP during lockdown, ‘Nocturnal’. He is set to support Dylan John Thomas on 7th December. Also, on April 22nd of next year, he is to play a headline show at King Tut’s as a part of his country-wide tour.

Anticipation was building for La Volpe to make an appearance at his top show so far - following on from performances at TRNSMT two years running. He stormed onto stage to a few upbeat, fast songs before addressing his admiring fans, showing his appreciation for them. Following this, he altered the tempo, playing his former Scottish Number One Single, Dead Man’s Blues, which is certainly a slower track.

Undoubtedly, the 25-year-old has a stage presence like no other. For the theatrical-type performer that he is, sunglasses and a suit have become his trademark look. Of course, for his biggest show yet, he donned a dark blue floral outfit, what else would you expect. A mixed tempo continued throughout the evening, altering his setlist between sorrowful and cheerful songs. As well as this, he performed a variety of old and new tunes.

The singer is a West Lothian native, somewhere that has turned into a hub for producing some of the biggest and best Scottish musicians. Lewis Capaldi, The Snuts, and LF System also grew up in the area before going on to have extremely successful careers respectively.

A wonderful night concluded with an emotional rendition of one of La Volpe’s top performing songs - Terribly Beautiful. He dedicated this to someone in the crowd whose partner had given birth that morning, but he still “couldn’t miss the gig”. The thousand or so fans were singing along to every line of the love song, clapping, dancing, and waving their hands throughout. The final song certainly summed up the night perfectly.

No dates are in the diary for future shows from Luke La Volpe.
