With a comeback tour and with high anticipation from the fans, ‘The Mysterines’ have already done the circuit, having played at various festivals and a tour at the tail end of last year. tonight’s show been the biggest sell out show to date, having had the venue moved from the Lexington due to phenomenal demand  now on a bigger stage at Tufnell Park Dome.

Tonight’s stellar line up also includes London Alt Rock quartet ‘Drool’ and the trio ‘Berries’.

The fans were greeted at the early start with ‘Droll’, consisting of members Joey Rogers, ‘Martin Sóderin’, Louis Greenway and Joe Bennison. Sounding more like a late 1980’s alt- Rock merged with heavy guitars and melodic structures reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys.

‘Drool’ are very much fun grungy sounding to get the party started early on, at Tufnell Park Dome, felling much more at home on the big stage. ‘Drool’.  having released the Singles ‘Fun’ and ‘Junkyard’ back in 2019 look set to go on to bigger things in the future and one to look out for.

The more established London based, setting the scene to what was yet to come, were ’Berries’. The band have notably before toured with ‘Blood Red Shoes’ and ‘Cherry Glazerr’, greet everyone with some delicious riffs and rocky sounds, with the fans pogoing along to some of their earlier songs such as ‘Faults’ as well as ‘Dangerous’ and ‘silent’ taken from the more recent ‘Lies EP’. The sounds are frenetic, hair swinging and their grunge blues echo loudly into the audience at The Dome’s larger hall space. One can only hope the band will release a full length album very soon to build up on their effortlessly played balanced energetic live performance!

Not too long with a blink of the eye, Lia from ‘The Mysterines’, confidently strolls  on stage amongst the smoke and strobe lighting wearing black shades and a feather boa, as to make a statement to the loudest crowd cheer and noise!

Until most recently ‘The Mysterines’ have had very little presence with only a handful of shows and songs to go by. This has changed now with the support of the BBC’s Steve Lamacq and the ‘Take Control EP’, having major support slots on the Miles Kane’s and most recently with’ The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’.

The band, stemming from the Wirral, consists of Lia Metcalf , George Favager, most rcently adding Callum Thompson and having to draft in a temporary drummer Paul Crilly ,take control of the stage with no fuss, pounding out the drums with heavy bass lines, sounding ‘The strokes’ or early ‘P.J.Harvey’! By now ‘The Dome’ erupts with the chants, fist waving from the fan base with the largest mosh pit forming in the middle, everyone jumping to the newly released anthem style single ‘Love’s not enough’. There is distinctly less unnecessary chatter from the band and the set is effortlessly played out. As an added nice touch a fan hands a silver ring to lead singer Lia with a smile on his face.

The Mysterines are certainly a band destined to head to bigger venues, progressing and gaining, more support along the way with the Lia’s charismatic style and execution on stage, going by how tonight’s ‘whirlwind  energetic’ memorable performance is anything to go by!
