STRANGE BONES // THINK TANK?, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
STRANGE BONES ONCE AGAIN CREATE A RUCKUS AS NEWCASTLE’S THINK TANK?
★★★★★ (5/5)
There’s Punk then there’s Strange Bones who take it to the extreme! With over 100 fans in the warm sweaty venue patiently waiting for the show to begin you could feel the anticipation from fans who knew exactly what was about to go down.
The lights suddenly turned off and screens on stage played visuals as each member took to the stage while the intro to Napalm über alles began playing, this is their latest release and is a fresh sound with a electronic influence. As soon as the breakdown hit vocalist Bobby Bentham threw himself into the crowd. This set the precedent for the evening. With no time for a break, Here Come The Wolves was next which caused the crowd to be ecstatic with them off their feet.
With a brief breather it was time for We The Rats, a bouncier song which again had Bentham in the crowd, with fans screaming the lyrics into the microphone. Up next was the unreleased track Underdogs, I believe this is the first tour it’s being played and I hope to hear it released soon.
Up next was Snakepit, which of course had Bentham wearing a gas mask. This is easily their most notable track to date and once again had the crowd off their feet with some crowd surfing and the rest jumping. The 6th track of the evening was the first track they released S.O.I.A. This demanded crowd participation with the audience chanting the riff.
Energy was up next which is a collaborated between the four piece and Avelino this had the crowd bouncing again with bodies flying around the venue. With the night drawing to a close it was now time for easily my favourite track by Strange Bones and maybe my track of 2019; Vicious. The whole track is great! The first verse allows the crowd to have a quick breather before the chorus hits and this is where Bentham threw himself back into the crowd.
The closing the track of the evening was God Save the Teen which had Bentham split the crowd and have everyone on their knees before the last verse kicked in. The crowd erupted one cue shaking the venue as they ran into each other!
Strange Bones are a band that you need to see, the energy each member has is ridiculous, 2020 is going to bring big things for the four piece.
