THE PALE WHITE // THE MASH HOUSE, EDINBURGH

Building on a classic formula, The Pale White tear the roof off at Edinburgh’s Mash House

★★★★☆

Taking to the stage the Newcastle based band The Pale White, composed of brothers Adam & Jack Hope (Lead Vocal, guitar & Drums respectively) and Tom Booth (Bass), look every part the rockstars they want to be. The near capacity crowd of the Mash House in Edinburgh cheers as they take to the stage and promptly launch into the razor sharp “Wisdom Tooth”.

Edinburgh marks the second stop on the bands current UK tour and proves to be an impressive show of a young rock band hungry to show what they can do. By the end of the night no one present will doubt that the band has a bright future and huge potential within their well crafted songs.

From the outset the band sound immense. Filling the venue, floor to ceiling, with heavy guitar driven rock. The trio manage to impressively recreate the studio sound of their self titled EP and various singles. There's no denying they sound huge.

And its not just the audio quality and soundscape that's on point. The band's performance is incredibly solid and they manage to pair driving basslines with some interesting guitar work that elevates the simple line up of the band and imbues it with a decidedly modern sound.

Which is lucky as the crowds age tends towards the younger end of the spectrum, but with fans of all ages in attendance, showing that the appeal of this band is far reaching.

After a very punchy start the set perhaps heads into a bit of a doughy middle as some of the songs begin to blur into one another. However the hard work of the band pays off and the crowd keep the flame going and continue to lap up the songs thrown out by the boys. And with future titans such as “Loveless” in the setlist you can see why.

The set tightens up as it nears the end and into the encore as the last few songs manage to sufficiently differentiate themselves from each other and leave the crowd rowdy and wanting more.

Though it felt a little brief, and still managed to chug in the middle, The Pale White manage to fit a rock show befitting bands far their senior into anywhere they play. Do yourself a favour and check them out, as no doubt within a short space of time they'll be playing much larger venues.

The Band are still on tour of the UK until the 9th of March. Catch them to see one of the most promising new bands carrying the torch for guitar rock.
