THE STRUTS // GLASGOW GARAGE, GLASGOW
The Struts play sold-out intimate show at Glasgow’s Garage
★★★★★
The Struts’ frontman Luke Spiller strongly resemblance to the Queen singer Freddie– all tousled black hair, eyeliner and swagger – and he channels his supreme showmanship which a great stage presence. Spiller struts around the stage, sports a magnificently daft glittery cape with a few outfit changes of course during the night.
Spiller and his band were in complete control of the audience from start to finish. The band is often described as a glam retro-fetisht classic rock and roll, and it is something they are proud to be named. They don’t hide it they always embrace their talent and personality as do the fans. The Struts have not stopped over that past few years between touring in Asia, Europe and many more places yet they still bring the same amazing energy each time. They have also recently performed on The Victoria Secret 2018 Fashion Show which was an amazing platform for them to sing and reach their audience. Luke was a bit under the weather but still brought a strong performance to Glasgow and often aed the crowded for help.
The UK leg of the tour has sold out every night apart from Newcastle and London so be sure to grab some tickets while you can. What a great way from them to return home with their biggest UK tour even nearly sold out. The tour is supported by Kelsy Karter alongside some special guests.
It has been a long time since The Struts were in Scotland and the last time was probably when they performed at the last TITP on the main stage. So many fans have been waiting a long time to see them perform again but it is more special with it being a headline tour in support if their latest album Young & Dangerous. When The Struts take to the stage, full audience participation is a must, Luke wastes no time and gets right into the performance strutting his stuff. The Struts opened with “Primandonna Like Me” and followed with “Body Talks” so they started with really strong songs to get the crowd moving and hyped up. They also surprised the crowd and performed “Mary Go Round” that as not in the setlist and straight away you could tell everyone was very happy about it. Even with Luke not being well be still gave his all and ever more by adding on song to the setlist as he went. During the night he also got a fan on stage and have a dance and sing with her which made it a very special night. It was a great intimate gig with strong acoustics. The only time of the night he tried to stay still was when he performed “ One Night Only” however that still didn’t slow him down or the band.
By the time Spiller reaches “Could Have Been Me” an arena-sized anthem about the quest for fame and seizing every chance you get the fans signing is louder than the band and the dancing is strong in the crowd. Luke mentioned they did not have the budget for the big confetti or fire finale as he spent it on his costume but the fans loved his outfit more anyway. The Struts aren’t original, but they are an amazing live act with such strong talent and stage presence and they definitely will rock you with their songs.
