Indie-Pop band Kodaline were in town and I would be surprised if anyone in Newcastle couldn’t hear the crowd singing by the time their gig got going!

Their support was Patrick Martin from America. He brought so much energy and charisma to the start of the evening, with his red heels and strong dance moves. With chants of “USA USA”, he thanked fans but said he didn’t want to get into politics and instead hoped everyone had brought their dancing shoes, which they definitely had! His new EP comes out next week and by the sounds of it, the crowd will be sure to check it out.
Kodaline took to a very vibrant stage atmosphere, packed with sparkly lights and very disco-esque. They were greeted with screams of delight from fans and opened with ‘Follow Your Fire’ and ‘Brand New Day’. They made an electric start to their set, warming up the crowd and setting the tone for the rest of the evening.
‘Ready’ and ‘Head Held High’ were standouts before moving on to an acoustic version of ‘The One’. During the song, a couple in the crowd got engaged and lead singer Steve Garrigan invited them on stage to celebrate. What a great moment - one which they said they would treasure for the rest of their lives. Congratulations Laura and Leanne!
As well as it being a lively gig, there were moments of strong emotion that, you could sense, reminded the crowd of past experiences, with tears in some eyes. It was certainly noticeable during ‘Brother’, ‘Moving On’ and ‘Love Will Set You Free’.
Before their encore they played ‘One Day’ and a cover of Kygo’s song ‘Raging’, which had their fans bouncing around the packed venue. They finished off with arguably their two biggest hits ‘High Hopes’ and ‘All I Want’. At points it was difficult to tell who was singing the songs louder, the crowd or the band!
