YOUNG FATHERS // BOILER SHOP, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
Young Fathers amaze Newcastle in front of a sold-out crowd!
★★★★★
After cancelling their show last year during the festive period due to illness however the group were quick to reschedule, however the original supporting artist Petite Noir was unable to make the rescheduled date and was replaced with Callum Easter.
With his accordion in hand, Callum Easter may have seemed like a unlikely pairing for one of Britain’s best hip artists but the crowd certainly loved his act. His short and snappy set was enjoyed by the sold out crowd with his set lasting half an hour which included tracks of his EP he released late last year (Here or Nowhere and Back Beat). At the start of his set it was clear there were slight nerves, however once he began playing the nerves went away and he played a cracking set!
For those who have seen Young Fathers before you should know what to expect; bursting with energy the five piece were a sceptical that the sold out crowd privilege of witnessing. As soon as the music began, the lights strobing, Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and 'G' Hastings were all over the stage dancing to their infectious sound. With their music featured on T2 Trainspotting they are clearly known throughout the UK with their cult like following.
Their set was incredible and has set the benchmark very high! Their show was one easily one of the best I’ve witnessed.
Included in their set were fan favourites such as ‘In My View,’ ‘Toy,’ and ‘Border Girl’ from their recently released album Cocoa Sugar. The group are currently set to tour Europe with Florence + The Machine where the crowds are going to be in for a treat. I hope that the group come back to Newcastle in the very near future as they will easily be able to sell out another tour!
