NEW HOPE CLUB TAKE ON TWO-SOLD OUT SHOWS AT LONDON'S O2 SHEPHERDS BUSH EMPIRE
★★★★★
Following a prestigious support slot with established stars The Vamps and embarking on their first ever headline tour earlier this year, Steady Records signees New Hope Club took on two-sold out shows at London’s iconic O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.
As the lights dimmed, New Hope Club - consisting of George Smith, Blake Richardson and Reece Bibby - appeared on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans. The band opened their sold-out performance with the Mud cover ‘Tiger Feet’, released as part of the Early Man soundtrack earlier this year. The catchy, upbeat version of a glam rock classic caused everyone in the crowd to dance and clap along, a great sign of the atmosphere inside the venue for this evening.
The band quickly moved onto their next track, one of their unreleased songs titled ‘Medicine’ which features some outstanding vocal performances throughout. This was followed by fan favourite ‘Perfume’ - this was one of the first songs the band ever released back in 2015, and one that was pivotal to their talents getting noticed.
As the band got really into their set, they decided to put their upbeat songs to side, to perform a stripped back, intimate acoustic version of their song ‘Water’. The crowd inside the venue responded well, giving the band the chance to sing some powerful and heartfelt lyrics. Moving back to their upbeat tracks, the trio did their own cover version of ‘Oh Cecila’ - a subtle throwback to them presenting the track on stage while touring with The Vamps back in 2016.
As the set comes to over halfway through, the band aired a live debut of their sincere Christmas track ‘Whoever He Is’. As New Hope Club started performing the track, all that can be heard was the crowd singing along, swaying to every lyric of the song. This was then followed by ‘Crazy’, another unreleased song by the band about struggling within a relationship. Having previously performed this track on tour with The Vamps earlier this year, from the reception it received the fans clearly can’t wait to hear the studio version.
As the performance comes towards to its end, the band finish with a fan favourite in ‘Why Oh Why’ which had the entire venue jumping and singing along, and ‘Fixed’ which features on their 2017 debut EP Welcome to the Club. Everyone took up on their feet one last time to dance, sing along and just experience the moment, as New Hope Club took their final bow before leaving the stage for the night.
These shows were definitely the sign of bigger success to come for New Hope Club, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for the band.
