★★★☆☆

Up and coming starlet Adam French arrived with his band to play an intimate show at Edinburgh’s Mash House, and went down well with the packed crowd.  Support on the night was provided by two similarly talented young singer songwriters, the first was Lewis Ross from Edinburgh.  Influenced by Bon Iver, Lewis is currently working on his first release with producer Garry Boyle. The future looks bright for this young man.

Second on the evenings bill was another Edinburgh songwriter.   Xander Lyons took his chance to play his brand of country & folk music to a welcoming audience.  Another young talent from the capital who has a bright future in the music industry.

The main act of the evening was 23 year old Adam French.  Hailing originally from London, the singer has a style not too dissimilar from Ed Sheeran, and perhaps David Gray from another era.  Up front on vocals with a guitar, and backed on stage by another guitar, bass drums and keyboards, his songs come from the heart and he delivers them with passion and enthusiasm.  "Weightless", "My Addiction", "Skin Deep" were all soulful tunes, with meaningful lyrics.

One criticism is maybe the setlist could be mixed up with some songs that have a bit more oomph, or throw in a cover here or there, as I felt at times too often one song merged into another.  Those in the crowd who were familiar with Adam's music enjoyed seeing him up close and personal, and I'm sure those not so familiar will be looking out for him in the future again.  A very talented young man, as a singer, song writer and musician, aptly backed by his band.  A successful night in Edinburgh and another stepping stone on the road to stardom for Adam French.
