NIGHT RIOTS // O2 ACADEMY 3, BIRMINGHAM

CALIFORNIA BASED ALT-ROCKERS NIGHT RIOTS RETURN TO BIRMINGHAM FOR HEADLINE SHOW AT 02 ACADEMY3

★★★☆☆

The show kicked off with openers Silent Rival, who were making their mark opening up for Night Riots across the country. The three-piece rock-band features Sara Coda on vocals, Joz Ramirez on guitar and Yutaka Sao on bass, with them signing to Listen Loud Records and releasing their debut album ‘The Kindness of Strangers’ last year.  As this was the band’s first proper run of UK shows promoting their debut album, the Birmingham crowd got a taste of tracks off this album and also some newer material. Their hits ‘Die A Little’, ‘Hollywood’ and ‘Paranoid’ got the Brum crowd going ready for Night Riots, who were due on stage straight after.

As the lights went out, venue-filled with an anticipated crowd; Night Riots made their appearance on stage, performing their hit numbers ‘All For You’, ‘Oh My Heart’, ‘Breaking Free’ and ‘Nothing Personal’. The crowd packed it out from the very start and more people knew the words than I anticipated. I hadn’t peeked at setlists prior to the show, so tonight’s performance was an unexpected delight.

The band performed tracks off their first two albums Into the Roaring and Love Gloom and also performed newer material, which is expected to be on their forthcoming third studio album which the band is currently working on at the moment. Playing their brand new single ‘Colour Morning’, this went down a storm with the Brum Crowd who already knew every single word of the song. The band clearly have proven why they are a group to watch out on and are already gearing up to play bigger shows in the future.
