Boy Azooga opened the evening with tracks off their debut album '1,2, Kung Fu', which received a great reception from the Glasgow crowd. After their performance on came Our Girl, whose last attempt to play King Tuts was thwarted by the snow when they were meant to be supporting Pale Waves. Their performance was also met with much adoration from the crowd as they played a short but strong set.
As The Magic Gang entered the stage the crowd burst into life with everyone pushing forward against the barrier. The band came on one by one starting with drummer Paeris Giles entering the stage first and frontman Jack Kaye coming onto the stage last. The Brighton based four-piece started the set with the first track on their album 'Oh Saki' which had the crowd going crazy with every member of the audience singing back the catchy indie-pop chorus with ease. Then diving straight into 'All This Way' which was a single prior to the album's release: so for the few who didn’t know the words to the opening track, the sing-along chorus for 'All This Way' guaranteed that they knew this one.
One of the strongest performances from the night was 'Getting Along'. This song really brought the crowd to life as every member of the crowd joined in, slowly but surely the crowd became a sweat fest with bodies pushing against each other with excitement and happiness.
My two favourite performances from the night were 'Jasmine' and 'Caroline' which were both performed with endless energy from the indie group. After playing 'Caroline' frontman Kaye thanked everyone for coming and said that Glasgow may now be his favourite city to perform in, which understandably was met with screams and cheers from the crowd.
As the evening continued the crowd only got more energetic and excited, when the band started 'Alright' the small venue began splitting up into pits as the crowd grew in anticipation for the indie garage style chorus. As the song progressed the band couldn't help but smile and take in every second as the crowd sang back almost every word.
With the evening coming to a close the band played their most popular song 'How Can I Compete' with the indie-pop vibe summing up the band perfectly: it's anthemic chorus and raw guitar riffs are exactly what I love about them.
After thanking the crowd and leaving the stage briefly the indie rockers returned to the stage with a performance of 'I'll Show You' which was a happy and upbeat track to start the encore with. After this they made one final thanks and promised to return soon as they dived straight into 'All That I Want Is You' which had the crowd draw every last ounce of energy they had and really go for it throughout the duration of the song. The band gave everything they had for their final performance of the evening and it really paid off as it was a fantastic and strong performance.
The Magic Gang are a band on the rise and anything is possible for the four-piece, their unique sound will take them places in the music scene and I cannot wait for more music from them. One of my favourite performances as of recent.
