★★★☆☆

Playing at Newcastle’s riverside on a rainy Tuesday evening to hundreds of fans, friendly fires have started their tour off in a great way. Starting the night off was the unique Vonica from London. With his electronic tracks it was a nice chilled way to start the evening. Playing to a packed crowd his act was great. I really enjoyed his short set.

Next up was Justin Robertson who played a short DJ set which had a plethora of genres included, the audience reacted well to him.

Originally forming in 2006 then taking a hiatus for three years friendly fires are back and better than ever! With their infectious sound they managed to get the whole audience dancing. Frontman Ed Macfarlane was the highlight of the show with his energy and natural showmanship it’s clear to see he loves performing.

With their infectious sound it was easy to see why they gathered such a great following which includes people off all ages as they really appeal to everyone. I really enjoyed their performance and they also featured two other unknown members on stage playing other instrument’s like the bongos, which added to the show.

Overall their set was fun to watch, they sounded great and with them back better than ever you should catch them while you can, I can expect these to be back very soon and maybe in the near future playing at venues such as the O2 Academy.
