CHRISTINE & THE QUEENS // ROYAL CONCERT HALL, GLASGOW

When you’re a reviewer and you’re at a loss for words because a show that you went to was simply awe-inspiring and changes your perception on life, it’s a lot to take in and comprehend. That is exactly what Héloïse Letissier (AKA Christine & The Queens) did from the very moment she walked on stage.

Turning an iconic venue (The Royal Concert Hall) which is known for its history of classical music events into a place where people can be free and have their safe haven for a night while she sang and danced the night away through many seasons including stormy weather (from a backdrop) but the way she presented herself made it feel like sailing through the calm of a wave.

You can tell that Letissier’s influences are very Michael and Jackson-esque as her dancers (who were more than backing dancers, they were just as important as the main character on stage) while she performed hits such as Girlfriend, 5 Dollars and Tilted which gained a massive reaction from the crowd. Every single movement from Letissier and her dancers made you anticipate what was going to happen next, feel the intensity between people and the way she made everyone feel equal. The love Letissier has for her band, crew and every single person who was inside the room that evening was indescribable.

The one thing to take away from the show is that you can be free to be who you want to be and don’t be afraid to express yourself for who you truly are. She told her crowd that she was Chris tonight and Chris had everyone in the palm of her hands. To this day, the feeling which resides in me from her strength, power and positivity is overwhelming yet it’s at its finest form.

Before her final song Saint Claude, the whole room was on their feet for a standing ovation and rightly deserved. Underrated and a powerhouse to be reckoned with, if you ever get a chance to witness the feeling of being at a Christine & The Queens show, embrace every single pulse, breath and heartbeat with every fibre you have. Tout simplement extraordinaire!
