After performing as a semi-acoustic duo, Callum and Danny decided on the bus journey back from a busking session in Edinburgh. During that same trip they formed the band name. With a blend of their home addresses, and ‘Whitehill Grove’ was born. Soon old friends Ethan was invited in on drums, followed by Seth on guitar.
They have created their own style of indie rock, devising songs with less common elements to avoid an overload of any sound. Whitehill Grove like to mix it up on the occasion like most bands. The band aim to create a full range of emotions and create amazing energy within their audience which makes for a great experience.
Their debut EP, Runaway, came out in February 2016 and was followed by singles released in October 2016 and February 2017. These releases have generated a large amount of hype for the band, which should continue as they record further material throughout the year.
Throughout the tour they are having many local acts as support. For Aberdeen, they had Vansleep and Seabreeze. Vansleep are a three-piece indie rock band from Aberdeen. They performed first and it was a great start to the evening. Vocals and guitar is done by Cameron Donald and the Bass performed by Bryce McLernon and finally on the Drums was Kieran Henderson. Seabreeze is a five-piece alternative/indie band from Aberdeen. They were both amazing support acts and were clearly so pleased to be able to support Whitehill Grove after they performed they stayed to watch the rest of the gig.

The band have been part of the Edinburgh music scene for over a year now and plan to continue gigging around Scotland, building up their fan-base and then continuing onto bigger venues and crowds. At the venue as expected the atmosphere was a very chilled and positive in the wait for the main band. With the stage not being on a platform it was very easy for them to interact with the crowd. This allowed for the gig to be nice and intimate which the band enjoyed. With lead singer and guitarist Callum Fergusson belting out the lyrics, Danny Gilles on bass and backing vocals providing the rhythm, Ethan was on the drums giving the beats and Seth Allen was on lead Guitar. The venue was a unique choice. It was a music studio so in the main entrance there was a projector set up for people to view and listen to all the sets. You could also go through to the studio rooms and view the set with a great view. As it was in a studio the acoustics were amazing and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.
As a young indie band on the night they had strong vocals, good rhythm, and great stage presence. Of course, in this industry they must compete with the countless other young indie bands trying to make it all over Scotland but I like to think the talent in this band brings a little more to the table than usual. They are at an advantage already.
The band is performing in a few more venues throughout Scotland in the next few months so be sure to check them out. Their next tour date is in Dundee on the 24/09/17 at Clark’s with support from The Kalaharis and The Rankines.
