Up close and personal made the Vamps appearance at the 02 Academy in Glasgow a very special night for a huge crowd of Scottish youngsters including my own 10-year-old son who as a fan of the Vamps was with me at his first ever live performance.

The crowd went predictably ballistic from the moment The Vamps hit the stage, a set of earplugs might have helped with the sound of well over a thousand teenagers (mainly girls) screaming with excitement at their idols presence.

The Vamps kicked of a highly energetic night  with “Hands” then their new single “The Middle of The Night “with the crowd all singling along, waving their phones and more screaming of course.

Within a short time of the show a couple of girls had fainted, I’m not sure if it was because of the excitement of being there near the front or the fact that it was very hot inside with not much ventilation, water was being handed out to as many people as possible by the staff, who did a good job of being very vigilant of the young fans.  A staff member told me that a few had camped out the night before and some had started queuing from 1pm.

One thing I enjoyed about The Vamps was the way that they all played instruments as well as sing and would even swap over instruments every now and then, my son was quite impressed with that and said to me “that’s why they are a real band and not a boy band!!”   They really do have talent these lads and all four members seem to have an equal share of the fans too.  I couldn’t quite work out who was the favourite, though if I had to pick I’d say probably Bradley (ok that’s who my son has informed me is the best) 😊

Their own songs were a plenty The Vamps are more than capable of holding their own, but a few covers really cranked things up, a favourite of both me and my son being “Slow Hand” (originally by Niall Horan) with Connor ball playing the double bass.

Lead singer Simpson seemed to be charged with keeping the chat going throughout the show, to be honest I never understood a word of what he was saying, not that he had to be understood he just had to stand there and smile at the crowd for the screams to reach crazy loud decibels!

The night finished after just over an hour long set with “All Night” A very popular track by the Vamps, which I’m happy with because it’s the one that even I know all the words to while the whole of the Academy sang along too making a good end to the night and just the beginning of many more seen my son want to go AGAIN!!
