THE VIEW PLAY THE FIRST OF TWO SOLD GLASGOW BARROWLAND SHOWS AS PART OF 10TH ANNIVERSARY

The 10th anniversary tour for The Views’ hit album ‘Hats off to the Buskers’ started in The Barrowlands on the 4th of May, and what a start it was. After selling out 3 cities The View doubled everything on their tour, playing twice in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen and from the crowd it was clear that people had travelled from all over Scotland to see this homegrown, original indie-rock band play.

The night began with an Edinburgh band called Vistas. With excellent songs like Feel Alive and my personal favourite Medicine, it is obvious why this band was picked to support slot on the night. It almost felt a little unfair that they were playing to a crowd of around fifty people because they deserved a much bigger crowd. I highly recommend that you stop what you are doing and go check out Medicine along with the rest of this bands’ work. The songs haven’t gone unnoticed either. With features on the Indie list boosting the listens on their page through the roof it is no stretch to say that we can expect these guys to be headlining The Barrowlands in the next few years. They also have an upcoming gig at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut supporting Clean Cut Kid on the 29th of May, I would advise you to grab some tickets before they sell out.

The follow up to Vistas was a three-piece named The Blinders, a band with much heavier influences similar to Strange Bones and Cabbage. With the venue gradually filling as the band played their set, the audience was into what they were doing. Their style was a sort of punk-rock garage band. Although it is not particularly my scene I did enjoy large parts of the set. With this band also being featured on a popular Spotify playlist (Rocked) you can see a trend in modern music coming through. That trend being the goal of purely getting featured on an online playlist and it seems to be a good goal to aim for considering every day over 100,000 people listen to playlists suck as Rock This and from that your featured song can be a one hit wonder, or even better, it can attract those listeners directly to your particular page. Overall a band that played well on the night and has a big enough following to be recognised as an upcoming force.

Then the night erupted. With The View coming on stage the crowd went wild. With Kyle Falconer leading the way the crowd seemed to idolise him along with the band, chanting ‘The View! The View! The View are on fire!’ The stage set was impressive as well, a large green and pink heart emulating the album cover art set the atmosphere for the night perfectly, with not too much on stage it was a very organic looking stage, this only reinforced The Views’ simplistic indie style of music.

Falconer is commonly considered a rock star, with stories of collapsing on stage, getting arrested for possession of cocaine and being banned from the U.S. he certainly ticks all the boxes. None of that concerned the audience though and everyone was on form. With ‘Comin’ Down’ the first song on the album their 10th Anniversary started where it all began and moved on swiftly through the historic album. With the band originally forming on Dundee, Scotland the Scottish audience seemed to love every minute of the homegrown tunes. Third on the set list was the classic ‘Same Jeans’ and it created quite the atmosphere, it really boosted the night from then on. With a total of twenty-one songs played over the night the fans had everything they could ask for. The View now move onto Edinburgh and Aberdeen before doing a second round on the cities and if their performance continues to be on that level then the crowds of Scotland are in for a special anniversary for one of the most cherished bands in the country.
