Mallory Knox hit Edinburgh by storm as they took to The Liquid Room on Wednesday night as part of their “Wired” album tour, joined by Fatherson and Lonely The Brave. The five piece, alternative rock band from Cambridge managed to sell out their Edinburgh show after filling The Garage, Aberdeen, just the night before. “Wired” is the third studio album by Mallory Knox, and was newly released on the 10th of March, 2017.
Support band Fatherson opened the night not long after doors opened, but still pulled in a good crowd. The three piece Scottish rock band have begun to make waves in the Scottish music scene and kicked the night off with a bang. Fatherson played a faultless and energetic set, achieving more than just warming up the crowd before Mallory Knox took to the stage. They were joined by another guitarist, bringing an extra layer of depth to their songs. Fatherson finished their set, leaving a buzz in the crowd, ready for the rest of the night to follow.
Lonely The Brave were up next, another five piece rock band from Cambridge. They played a tight set of powerful and anthemic songs. Although passionate and dynamic through their performance, Lonely The Brave lacked the energy Fatherson had to offer. Frontman and lead vocalist David Jakes appeared on stage with a kettle of water and a mug, which could indicate that he was suffering from an illness – perhaps why their performance was lacking in enthusiasm. Nonetheless, the musicianship of every band member was very impressive and their music was received well by the crowd.
Mallory Knox took to the stage with a compelling light show that matched the crowd’s excitement. They opened with “Giving It Up” a single from the recently released album. Their flawless performance made it hard to judge whether they were playing live or simply miming along with the studio perfected album tracks. Mikey Chapman’s engaging qualities as a frontman shined through as he made sure the crowd weren’t bored for even a second, encouraging them to jump, clap and sing as much as they could. If that wasn’t entertaining enough, his vocal performance was stunning. The set was built from a mixture of songs from all three albums; “Wired”, “Asymmetry”, “Signals”. It was clear to see all five members played and performed to the highest of their ability, leaving the already impressive night on a high.
