CIRCA WAVES PLAY SOLD OUT BARROWLANDS GIG IN GLASGOW

On Monday, March 20th the Barrowland Ballroom was host to a large audience, all arriving to see Circa Waves. They travelled from their first venue in Sheffield up to Scotland to support the release of their second album ‘Different Creatures’.
But Circa Waves were not the only band that entertained the crowd. The first support act ‘INHEAVEN’ set the night off to a great start with their style and skill onstage. The foursome from South-London definitely hit the mark for a successful support band with a simple but effective high energy performance from the start to the end of their set. The band are growing and have listeners all around the globe, the top three cities being London, Paris and Melbourne. Without a doubt, they have now also made a name for themselves in Glasgow. What really made the night so promising is that the support acts were different from each other, INHEAVEN had an indie-grunge vibe to them on the night whereas the next band on stage specialised in some interesting ‘geek-rock’.
The follow-up support titled ‘The Magic Gang’ performed well on the night. Giving the Glasgow crowds a taste of their Brighton beats. With some funky tunes being played the audience were more than happy to dance along to their songs all night. They really came across with a cool and fresh image for the audiences to get into, with songs being both bold and groovy there is few bad things to say about the chic band from the south coast. A band that’ll I’ll be listening to for some time now.
Then the main act arrived on the famous Barrowland stage, the front man, Kieran Shudall walking onstage with the Scottish national flag over his shoulder immediately gave the crowd something to shout about. They kicked off the show with Wake Up, which is also the first song on their new album and it was obvious that this band had evolved into more that any old indie-band. The majority of their new release is heavier, braver and in my opinion, amazing. But with a strong album it is easy to forget the songs that got them to this stage in music, but not to worry, they included all they’re classic previous releases, cleverly dotting songs ‘Lost It’, ‘Fossils’ and ‘Stuck In My Teeth’ periodically through their set created a perfect mix of the new and old. The band seemed to fit well with the young audience in attendance and gave the show that every Circa Waves fan wanted. Once the inevitable end of the set Shudall re-joined the stage alone with an acoustic guitar and played ‘Love Runs Out’, another from their new album. Shortly after the rest of the band joined him and played ‘Fire That Burns’. To end the show they played their trademark song ‘T-shirt Weather’ but not before Shudall dedicated it to Gary Watson from Eastkilbride band ‘The Lapelles’ who tragically passed away in August 2016. The Glasgow crowd showed their genuine appreciation and respect as this was a heart-breaking and devastating loss to all who knew Gary and to the Scottish music scene. Then ‘T-shirt Weather’ was played and ended the night on a high. A great performance from a band who are not just in the indie scene but who are actively developing it. They next have dates in Newcastle, Manchester and Liverpool before moving to the rest of England and finishing the ‘Different Creatures’ tour in Cambridge.
