LOWER THAN ATLANTIS // O2 ABC, GLASGOW
On the 15th March 2017 the O2 ABC’s doors were open for Lower Than Atlantis putting on a show for the people of Glasgow. Their tour of Safe and Sound, a brand-new album, brought both long-standing and fresh fans to witness them play live. As expected it sold well and gave fans of the band a fifth album to sink their teeth into.

The show opened with a band by the name of ROAM. A young, high energy band with a vibrant pop-punk vibe to all their songs. Although being the first on stage they were not unheard of from the audience, this was clear by the participation and enthusiasm shown by the crowd from the get-go. A personal and audience favourite was Hopeless Case, a song that is written well and preformed even better. It is clear why the song had over 1,000,000 listens on Spotify and if you think that they’ve found a one hit wonder, you’re mistaken. With the bands monthly listeners increasing rapidly it is not an un-wise assumption that this five piece from Eastbourne might just keep growing in the pop-punk genre.
Next on the line up – Heads Like Houses. The Australian band made the stage and made it clear from their style and presence on stage that they were no average-pop-punk band. With some high tempo drumming that really got the crowd buzzed the band played well and had some real interesting fragments to their music like small hints of psychedelia in their intros and instrumentals that gave a nice spin to the very hard hitting vibes of pop-punk. This was re-enforced by some dramatic changes in lighting, going from colour to colour to match the emotion in the song. The band travelled far and were received well by the Scottish crowd that they performed for.
The third act of the night joined the stage. The crowd were ready for some more music. Young Guns gave them that. With the lead singers voice so strong and the band playing exceptionally there is no question why Lower than Atlantis brought Young Guns with them on their UK tour. Although they played well the crowd weren’t fully engaged all the way through. However, the last songs on their set changed the night completely. In three songs the band managed to have the crowd flying around, bouncing their arms in sync and to top it off the lead singer asked everyone to pull out a lighter or torch for the last song, titled ‘I am’.
Then came the headline. With no big entrance, Lower Than Atlantis promptly got on stage and began playing. Within seconds the crowd were singing. As part of the light show each band member had cameras set up on each mic stand that projected onto the back curtain. A nice touch as it is rarely done in smaller venues. The projections didn’t end there. A pleasant light show cast on the back screen, giving a silhouette to the drummer and lighting up the night. Half way through the set the lead singer began talking about the song ‘Safe and Sound’, before playing it. A simple speech, talking about the constant confusions of the early parts of life. This speech struck a cord with the audience just as much as the song did, most of the songs made people move but this one moved people. A well rounded and professional performance from all the bands left the crowd feeling very satisfied. Overall a great night from the pop-punk genre of music. Next on the tour they head to London, and then Cardiff.
