LIAM GALLAGHER // THE SSE HYDRO, GLASGOW
Ex Oasis/Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher kicked off the 3rd date of his debut album tour’ As You Were’ at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro.
★★★★★ (5/5)
The ‘As You Were’ tour began in Belfast on the 30th of October. In total Liam is doing over 9 UK shows in December and one in June 2018 with TRNSMT festival as the Saturday night headliner. Liam’s album reached a peak number 1 position when it was released on 19th October 2017. Before the albums release Liam did a few ‘intimate’ gigs at small venues for his popularity during May and June playing Glasgow’s Barrowlands and 02 Ritz in Manchester.
This time ‘R Kid’ is back again in Glasgow with a much bigger venue and much bigger crowd.
The doors opened at 6:30 and crowds of fans started to pour in before Liam graced
the stage. He was supported by the following acts: Indie newcomer Rat Boy, the band from Chelmsford Essex performed an array of hits such as ‘Sign On’.
Also performing was Dundee singer/songwriter from the band ‘The View’ Kyle Falconer famous for the single ‘Same Jeans’. These two acts got the sold out crowd ready for ‘R’Kid’.
As the house lights went down Liam Gallagher walked out in his iconic parka to ‘Oasis’ instrumental track ‘Fkning in the Bushes’ and the Scottish crowd got warmed up as Liam walked out quoting a famous lyric by ‘The Beatles’ “Glasgow I am he as you are he” and started off his set with ‘Rock 'N' Roll Star’. A punter in the crowd set off a signal flare and the mosh pits were swarming most of the crowd as the song was drawing to an end.
Most of Liam’s set was 50/50 Oasis and his solo album performing hits such as "Wall of Glass", "Come Back to Me", "Greedy Soul" and "For What It’s Worth". During interludes of songs Liam was having a chat with fans making jokes before starting ‘Oasis’ B-Side "Rockin Chair" which seemed to be a fan favourite.
Liam Gallagher asked the crowd "Have we any parka monkeys in the crowd?" and dedicated Oasis track "Some Might Say" towards fans. As Liam’s set drew to it's close he played an acoustic version of the classic "Live Forever". However to many peoples surprise he came back out for a second encore to perform Oasis’s most well known track "Wonderwall". This tour and gig proves that Liam is still the greatest rock and roll star there is.
