On Tuesday 7th November, Nothing But Thieves hit Glasgow as part of their tour for their second album Broken Machine, which was released on the 8th of September 2017. Broken Machine was released with huge success as it made its way to number 2 on the UK album charts on the same day. They kicked off with one of the albums debut singles I’m Not Made By Design and instantly won over the excited crowd of the sold out venue.
Through no fault of theirs, Nothing But Thieves’ sound was poor resulting in frontman’s Conor Mason’s voice occasionally being lost in the mix. However Mason did not let this affect his exceptional vocal performance, switching from powerful belts to stunning falsetto with ease. The crowd, unaffected by the sound, continued to sing loudly and loyally along to every word, as well as chanting, jumping and moshing at every opportunity they could.
The band smashed through a 17 song setlist - which included Mason’s acoustic cover of Free Fallin by the late Tom Petty - and then ended with another two song encore. Every single song was performed with energy and emotion that the audience could connect with.
“This is why I love playing in Scotland”, said Mason, “because you’re all a bunch of f***ing nutters”.
