PVRIS // O2 ACADEMY, GLASGOW

After releasing their second album “All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell” earlier this year to very high acclaim, Massachusetts four piece PVRIS return to the UK with a brand new setlist that has been a long time coming.

Starting the show was 19 year old Grace Shelley, also known as Tyne. She and her band members performed some chilled out music for the ever growing crowd and seemed to go down rather well. With a vocal style in a similar vein to Lynne from PVRIS and an energetic backing duo on keyboard and drums, their songs were bubbly and full of personality with some catchy hooks too.

Taking the stage to an almost full venue, main support Coin don’t really seem to hit the ground running. Performing songs from latest release “How Will You Know If You Never Try”, the Nashville four piece seem to take a few songs to hit their stride. With this being their first time in the UK, it’s understandable this may be down to nerves and not knowing how they would be received, but as they progressed through their set they finally hit top gear. Front man Chase Lawrence was energetic and never stopped in one place too long, getting the crowd involved with their music and making sure everyone had a good time. I expect they will be returning to the UK sooner rather than later.

As the lights finally dimmed once more, PVRIS take to the stage with deafening screams of joy from the crowd. Opening up with their single “Heaven” with vocalist Lynne Gunn on keyboard, before taking the mic to the front of the stage for a stomping rendition of “St. Patrick” it was clear from the start that this was a band on top of their game. Switching between keyboard and guitars throughout, Alex Babinski and Brian MacDonald provide precise and powerful instrumentals to back up the brilliant voice from Lynne, which was mostly apparent in tracks like “What’s Wrong” and “You & I” with the latter being the highlight of the set. Closing the show with fan favourite “My House” and an energetic encore of “No Mercy” where Lynne got up close and personal with the front row, PVRIS prove exactly why people were eagerly anticipating their new music as the songs translate perfectly to the live show.
