Kicking off the show was Jamie Lawson who, clad in check shirt and jeans, could’ve been confused with the perfect boy next door instead of Ed Sheeran’s Protege.

The "Wasn’t Expecting That" singer greeted the crowd with a host of calming songs, most of which could be mistaken for a 2012 collaboration with Taylor Swift, before playing the UK Singles Chart hit.

Along with a country-esque voice, Lawson carried an element of charm, building rapport with the crowd making jokes about how no one turned up to watch him as the support act in Germany and how audience participation was definitely not popular in Italy.

But then came the main event.

Does your dad have a cool best friend? He’s probably a little bit younger, dresses a lot nicer and maybe, just maybe, he’s in a band. James Blunt is that friend. Living proof that one song is all you really need, it even says so in his Twitter bio, he might never outgrow his reputation of being the guy who sang "You’re Beautiful", but he’s definitely not a one hit wonder.

After opening the show with the playful "Heart to Heart", Blunt joked with the crowd that now Adele wasn’t doing live performances and Brexit was upon us, he was all Britain had left.

The theme of self-deprecating humour didn’t stop there, throughout the night references were made to Blunt’s below average 5”7 height, coercing laughs and cheers from the crowd.

While Glasgow is known for being tough, the city seemed to bring out a softer side of Blunt which saw him explaining the inspiration behind songs "Time of Our Lives" and "Make Me Better", his wedding day, wife and son. Known for being outspoken on social media, it was no surprise to hear that current hit "Someone Singing Along", which has been dubbed a protest song, was written with US President Donald Trump in mind.

It was after these insights that the classics came out. Using an all white piano, Blunt transported the crowd back to 2004 by performing "Goodbye My Lover", "High" and "You’re Beautiful" with a few newer songs thrown in between.

The twenty song set list was rounded off with the upbeat, perfect summer song, "Bonfire Heart".

With an eclectic mix of slow and up tempo songs and a stage presence that hasn’t faltered in the last thirteen years, performing at the SEC Armadillo James Blunt is timeless, entertaining and the ultimate cool dad.
