The Sherlocks’ new release Under Your Sky is an immersive, stomping success and it’s one to turn up and belt out.

THE SHERLOCKS - UNDER THE SKY

★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)

Yorkshire lads, The Sherlocks, started on the scene in late 2015 and have been steadily picking up pace ever since. Their fist-pumping rock brings up fond memories of the likes of The Strokes and The Courteeners and the group seems determined to make their mark. In 2017, début album Live for the Moment was unleashed on the public and, despite the mixed reviews; the band began to carve out a place for themselves in the bustling seabed of modern rock.

While their first album did not quite pack the desired punch; it seems as though the band have addressed their critiques and have come back fighting. Under Your Sky captures the listener’s playful side and sparks an electric excitement. The album is eleven tracks that play out like a youthful, hedonistic party but that’s not to say it is without a tender, emotional side. There is a maturity to the new album; the writing has evolved to new depths yet their upbeat essence remains constant.

Opener ‘I Want It All’ is a certified banger. This pounding track comes out swinging with a charging emotion and establishes that The Sherlocks are here to be noticed. And this momentum is continued in the stunning ‘NYC (Sing It Loud)’ which embraces this listener with a defiant sense of empowerment

‘Magic Man’ is the work’s standout rock piece. Coloured with shredding guitar and a clever breakdown; the track fully satisfies the heavier side to their tastes. This hard edge threads the album and mixes perfectly in with their romanticism. ‘One Day’ and ‘Now and Then’ start with tough guitar before unveiling heart-filled, loving centres.

‘Give It All Up’ is a clear standout from the album. Starting with stripped back vocals, the song builds in a warm glory. It shows clear development in how The Sherlocks work on the production of their tracks. Title track ‘Under Your Skys’ closes the experience and sounds like it’s straight from the mind of a Gallagher brother.

The Sherlocks’ new release raises the bar from their earlier works and is a must hear for modern rock fans. Get it on, let go, and enjoy yourself!
