The debut single release Come On To Me has had significant airplay on UK radio and gave him his first top 10 on the US billboard charts since 1997. Happy With You has more than a passing resemblance to Mother Nature’s Son from the White Album, Dominoes has more than a hint of Let ‘Em In from his days with Wings, Despite Repeated Warnings again reiterates the danger of people like Donald Trump being given power, and the closing track ‘Hunt You Down’ stops and starts, speeds and slows, very reminiscent of Jet from Band On The Run and tracks from that era. But here lies the issue, McCartney is getting on in life and has tomb of recordings behind him, therefore Isn’t it inevitable some songs may song similar to others? But I suppose when they songs are likened to classics, its no bad thing is it?
Egypt Station is a good record by McCartney. Catchy tunes, great guitars, melancholy moments too which make you think of days gone by. He can write songs of love, life, politics, the world, he can turn his hand to anything and make a tune from it. He doesn’t have to win over new fans or impress anyone, nor is it likely he will ever hit the heights of the top end of the charts again, even with the help of ‘the master’ Kanye West, but he knows how to make music, and that’s all he has to do.
