AMAPOLA // 'REMEDIES' - SINGLE REVIEW

LONDON-BASED COLLECTIVE AMAPOLA RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE 'REMEDIES'

AMAPOLA - REMEDIES

★★★★★

World, meet Amapola. This eclectic group of London musicians have already been turning heads, with the word on the street bringing a heightened praise for their tight musicality and energetic live show. And their first single is out in the universe - a four and a half minute journey of a track in 'Remedies', that intermittently dabbles into jazz and hip-hop with a steady bedrock of contemporary neo-soul. The instrumentation is delightfully constructed throughout, the chorus being no exception as it boasts an unexpected yet vivid chord change, amongst the backdrop of distant spoken-word. The whole setup oozes a degree of sophistication that far outweighs their relatively youthful age as a band.

Having already earned a respectable 30,000 streams on Spotify since its release, 'Remedies' is an exciting first look into Amapola's blend of 'chilled beats, electronic fire and tropical nuance', to quote their own press release. Those words are not at all hyperbolic: it's smooth, funky and just irresistibly catchy. Fans of De La Soul, Jordan Rakei and King Krule - you should be paying attention.
