Day two of Edinburgh Summer Sessions saw three of the country’s finest indie bands take to the stage in Princes Street Gardens. Retro Video Club kicked the day off with their indie-rock party sound and festival-ready anthems.
For singalong indie favourites, one band can certainly deliver… The Vaccines, who soundtracked the resurgence of guitar music in the early 2010s, returned to Scotland armed with their latest album Combat Sports and the plethora of indie favourites that saw them rise to such prominence. As the night drew in, Bastille took to the stage, making Princes Street Gardens the only place to be for indie music fans. Their setlist included everything the crowd were anticipating from their headliners: the announcement of new music, fan favourite ‘Of the Night’ and some classics such as ‘Pompeii’ and ‘Things We Lost in the Fire’ capping off an incredible day of live music.
WEEK TWO OF EDINBURGH SUMMER SESSIONS

The LaFontaines got the day started in style with their rock-influenced rap sound, bringing incredible party scenes to Edinburgh. As Scottish natives and festival favourites, there was perhaps no better band to begin week two of the festival. Grace Carter kept the good vibes going with her soulful singer-songwriter sound and while fans wait for her highly-anticipated debut album, Summer Sessions was the best setting to enjoy her incredible sound.
Rag‘n’Bone Man provided the perfect fusion of hip hop beats and striking vocals, perfectly displaying how he has risen to become one of the most popular acts in the UK. Adding his own personal touch, the singer found a member of the lucky Summer Sessions’ audience named ‘Grace’ to dedicate his soulful song of the same name to, marking a poignant moment of the night. With the beautiful backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, massive singles ‘Human’ and ‘Skin’ were moments to be remembered.

Paloma certainly kept the good times coming with her infectious radio hits including ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’, ‘Crybaby’ and ‘Picking Up The Pieces’ going down a treat with the capital crowd. Since releasing her debut album in 2009, Paloma has been a shining light in the music industry, skilfully blending genres like pop, R&B, soul and jazz to produce her own eccentric retro signature style which went down a storm at her phenomenal Summer Sessions show.

One of the most seasoned festival headliners on the planet, Kasabian, returned to their beloved Scotland, for a more intimate gig compared to the arenas they regularly fill across the globe. With a back catalogue as diverse and well-loved as Kasabian’s, picking their headline setlist was certainly a challenge, but the Leicester lads delivered a set that encompassed the fan favourites and indie-rock anthems that have soundtracked UK festivals for 15 years including mass dance parties to ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’ and ‘Club Foot’. Kasabian showed once again why they are the experts at blending dance beats with rock anthems and captivating audiences at headline festival sets around the world with a spellbinding sold out show.
Australian trio DMAs began the Saturday night party and made sure the crowd were well and truly warmed up for Kasabian’s headline set, as they merged their Britpop inspired sound with classic indie rock anthems.
