The War on Drugs Inspired 'BARE ROOTS' Unveils Epic Debut Single 'Ride The Wave'
From L/R Ollie Petrie (Guitar) Anthony Francis (Vocals / Guitar) Martin Corkhill (Drums) Joe Anderson (Bass)
Hailing from the working-class suburbs of Newcastle, BARE ROOTS combine 80s soundscapes with 90s soulful rock and roll. The band was formed by school mates Anthony Francis(vocals, guitar), Joe Anderson (bass) and Martin Corkhill (drums) who later joined forces with Ollie Petrie (guitar).
BARE ROOTS set out to make a statement with ‘Ride The Wave’ which draws influences from bands like Pearl Jam and The War On Drugs, with a firm emphasis placed on homegrown values and the importance of self-worth.
Thanks to a wave of early industry hype, the band are already scheduled to perform at Newcastle festivals Hit The North 2019, THIS IS TOMORROW and Stockton Calling alongside acts such as Jake Bugg, Tom Grennan, Foals, You Me At Six and Nothing But Thieves.
Singer-songwriter Anthony Francis, explains:
“We don't conform to the idea of appealing to a particular scene. The best acts transcend genres. We just want our music to reach an audience. Who they are, doesn't matter.
“RIDE THE WAVE is our introduction to the world. There's nothing better than hearing a tune for the first time and feeling like you have to keep pressing play.
“Three of us have been making music together for 11 years now. We love to write tunes and we feel like we've found our own process. We write and record all of our own material. I believe we're equipped to offer the world something.
‘Ride the Wave’ is a timely exploration of contemporary working-class culture recorded and produced in the band’s DIY home studio.
Lyrically, the track will resonate with those who feel disillusioned with a monotonous or unrewarding 9 to 5. The song materialised when frontman Anthony Francis encountered countless people actively pursuing fulfilling careers whilst working the bar in a Newcastle hotel. Its dynamic structure and rousing, punchy chorus, however, ensure the track remains ultimately hopeful in its outlook.
The track is due for release worldwide and independently across all good digital stockists on Friday, March 15th and the band will take the festival circuit this season in promotion of the single.
“We love the idea of people being entertained. Every song sounding the same live doesn't cut it for us,” adds Francis.
“I think people will be surprised at what we have to offer live. We love the idea of putting on a show which showcases lots of different elements. There'll be quiet sombre moments, big moments and guest appearances. We want to offer something you may not expect from a rock act and it will be an experience for sure.”
