Fresh from commemorating his landmark milestone of over 3,000 performances, Hampshire-based singer and songwriter Frank Turner has successfully navigated a particularly tumultuous year and is currently exemplifying his impressive and affirmative musicianship following the favourable reception of his previous album, “Undefeated” . Our Frank Turner has now embarked on a tour alongside his band, The Sleeping Souls, to the most exciting prospect for his dedicated fans embracing his extensive music collection.
Leeds' O2 Academy served as an outstanding venue for this concert. Renowned for his commitment to promoting emerging artists, Frank Turner upheld this tradition by featuring unique support acts. In this case, Amigo The Devil presented themselves as a captivating band that blend folk punk and rock and roll. Led by Danny Kiranos, whose distinctive "Dark Folk" style deftly merges American folk with heavy metal influences, grabbed the audience with engaging narratives and a sweet dose of dark humour, successfully fostering a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. Before concluding the set with "Hungover in Jones Town," he took a moment to reminisce about his fond memories of Leeds, which lent a personal touch to the overall musical display
When Frank Turner ascended to the stage, the excitement among the audience was profound. The show initiated with "No Thank You for The Music," which then swiftly established a rapport with the crowd through lively songs such as "Girl From The Record Shop" and "1933." While some attendees may have anticipated a more acoustic folk presentation, Turner astounded everyone with a dynamic rock and roll showcase that alternated between vibrant tracks and poignant ballads, particularly during "Redemption." The warmth and openness as a frontman fostered a healthy relationship with Leeds, encouraging their active participation throughout the evening. The Sleeping Souls significantly contributed to the performance through their exceptional musicianship, enriching the overall experience for all in attendance. The night’s setlist incorporated a mix of new compositions and cherished classics, with the loudest cheers reserved for favourites such as "If Ever I Stray" and "I Still Believe." The evening reached its zenith with an exhilarating finale featuring "Four Simple Words," leaving attendees exhilarated and more importantly, rewarded.
